Changes to IndyCar need to be made following Wheldon's death

I'll bet Danica Patrick left Las Vegas knowing she's smart to move to NASCAR full time.

As for Dan Weldon....

Let's all take a moment....

...then raise our mugs in his memory and think about his wife and kids.

If I was one of the drivers not hurt, I'd be thinking long and hard about how dumb luck separated me and Dan. At well over 200 miles an hour, skill and reflexes are taken out of the equation while in wheel to wheel traffic.

Scott Speed, a pretty talented and experienced driver, said he turned down a ride (and shot at 5 million bucks) because he thought the venue was inherently unsafe.

It's a real shame. Dan was a great talent and, by all reports, a really good guy.

Dan Wheldon was a great champion for the sport. He would likely wanted a thorough review of what has heppened, what can be done, and moved forward. No rash calls for no ovals, no rash calls for reduced speeds.

Dan was instrumental in the development of the next generation IndyCar and he felt that Dallara was making some significant changes to improve the safety of the car. AJ and Mario made some good statements the other day on this topic and if ANYBODY understands the sport and the evolution of the cars those two do.

Godspeed Dan!

Let's all say a prayer for Susie (Dan's wife) and his two young boys.

I'm not sure the Las Vegas Speedway is "inherently unsafe". I share Robin Miller's opinion that IRL's philosophy of "low power and high downforce" combined with open wheel cars running three wide at 220 mph is the problem.
