2002 black conv.
Hello I am the new owner of a 1992 black conv. It wasn't maintained well and I have undertaken the responsibility to due it justice.

The driver side sill is worn thru.

Is there a replacement with the plastic backing or do I need to separate and glue a molded carpet to it?

Thank you for the help.

Welcome to the forum.I think you are going to have to seperate ,buy a new peice and reglue. The bad part is I think the only way you can get those peices is to buy a carpet kit.Maybe someone will chime in.

yeah me too, the last owner of my vette should have been a drivind some thing else, like a geo and not a vette, no justice in this world! my back carpet really looks like the sun melted it on the wheel well humps and some thing ugly spilled on the rear part just behind the rear boxes. any one figure ot why such little peices of carpet cost so much???

I've been looking at carpet kits for mine also. Mine is worn out ... stains, worn thru drivers heel, ect. One thing I noticed about mine that I haven't seen on others is the trim along the sills. Mine has a "leather" covering, on the speaker humps also ('90 the front speakers are not in the door but attached to the sill). This looks like an aftermarket done add on, the seams along the top edges of the sill are stiched together, and the whole thing fits nicely. The color is almost exactly the same as the leather on the door panel, to tell the truth I never even paid any attentioin to it till recently it looks so good. I would like to find where the previous owner got this from or had it done, as I have not seen these sill covers advertised anywhere. I guess you could go to an upholstery shop and have them make one.

:w

BTW welcome to :CAC

GM has discontinued the speaker coverings for the sills. The carpet for the sills can be purchased seperately for about 80.00 for the pair. You just have to glue it on after removing the old carpet. I have a greene 92 convertible that was not taken care of. I have been doing a ton of research on it. I am going to cover the speaker grills with speaker cloth. The stock covering is terrible as it does not let out the full range of sound. Door sill protectors looke like a good idea after you have recovered the sills. Check the different vendors for it, I ordered it through a shop that is going to replace my weather stripping so I don't know which company they used.
