for the time being here's my idea

stock c5 exhaust on a 97 c5....

cutting out the mufflers and running straight..

any input????

i know this will make it lean with little back pressure...

i am completly stock as of now.

would you reccomend this and if so with what mods?

any more hp??

:cool Gid that to my L81C3. Sounds great, like a Vette should little resonation and alot less money than the Flowmaster 40s I was going to buy. I still have the stock cat,not sure that it wouldnt be to loud with a high flow cat.:w

I have a set of B&B prts with speed way tips Its almost what you descripe except they keep the mufflers and just add a straint thru pipe in other words imagine just welding a pipe straight thru from before the intake of the mufflers to the present exchaust tips .

I dont think eliminatining the mufflers all together will sound good mine has slight resonance in it and also sounds like a modified racing boat gurguling under the water

we chopped ours :)

Ok at the back of the vette it comes down from the cadilitic convetors then bends into the mufflers then it comes back out to the chrome tips. well go to a auto store by 2 1/2 pipes where it comes down at , cut a hole then where its comes out at cut a hole, weld the pipe inbetween (bypassing the Mufflers) gives it a meaner sound without spending ALL that cash... and was afraid of inspection but i passed as well (i dont think the guy even saw it ) lol

SORRY FO THE LARGE PICS

Here's mine ... this setup will make a set of stingers sound like they belong your gramma's buick.

I took a 4 wheel pipe cutter and removed the mufflers then welded on 4" X 18" SS tips and then took a old stop sign that wasn't being used (wink) and made a exhaust plate, polished it and added a decal.

Total cost approx. 50 bucks and a six pack

Cutting them off!

I did it, and few cops gave me more than a few looks when I drove by. I had to lift the throttle when I saw a cruiser, or a cop on detail. The great thing about doing it was going down the highway @ 80mph, 1700 rpm, just idling by the other cars. Eventually, I changed it a bit with the Borla XR-1 catback system. (center resonator in lieu of the x pipe) with (2) 4" stainless tips out the back, still no mufflers. (same location) so, I had to put long tube headers and high flow cats ofcourse. I guess I'm finally happy with it now. That Yellow C5 looks awesome with that plate, and the (2) pipes coming out. .........Cool man! You may end up driving by the cops in neutral, lol.
