Was Wondering what is a good mod for making a car faster but is still nice on my wallet.

1. Install true dual exhausts.
2. Remove emissions junk from engine.

(Actually, that's a pretty good start!)

Plan on putting side pipes on when i get them

Best bang for the buck is nitrous. Next up is rear gearing. Then on to exhaust system, intake, camshaft, cylinder heads in that order.

I haven't seen anyone mention headers yet. If your planning to install side pipes it's the perfect time to include a pair of ceramic coated headers. Definately go with coated as they will improve flow over uncoated and keep your engine compartment cooler as well.

1979toy,

Thanks for the idea but i wantto keep it street legal as much as possible.

Having modified my 1970 BB Vette as much as i want to go...id have to say the one real noticable performance improvement were Aluminum Oval Port Heads over the factory iron heads in conjuction with a Dual Plane Airgap Intake. After this was installed, i could not believe the additional air that the engine was pumping out ; i put my hand at the exhaust tips before and after, and i swear there was a 50% improvement in flow. The added performance had to be about a good 50 h.p. by the response and additional torque. ITs not a cheap purchase, but it increased power alot, while shaving off a good 100 lbs of weight.

Just a thought for a cheap mod how about cutting off both mufflers from stock exhaust its free, decreases backpressure(creating more HP), and make it sound good. Just and idea that jumped into my head.

It may be free, but its also illegal , wont pass Emissions testing, and will alert law enforcement, plus will tick your neighbors off from the sound.

Well the people that worked on our truck, 92 GMC Seirra, said that no muffler is legal and we are running our truck w/o muffler for about 8 years now and have yet to get any citation and everything have been compliments about the sound because it is mellow. Just reporting what we heard from a place that works on exhausts. And down here in springfield never have had emission testing so no problem there.

How about straight pipes with resonators? from what i understand this won't restrict flow yet it controls the sound a little? I have never heard it on anything but a truck, which is fairly commen in my parts as well as just straight pipes...
