Hey guys my check engine light on my 85 doesn't work I am having idle issues with the car and was going to check codes but my service engine soon light doesn't illuminate any suggestion I checked the fuses but I have no power at the light I don't know which wire goes to the light but I checked at the light itself and there was nothing there any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Check for codes anyway, take it to a autozone or somewhere if you need to. The light just maybe the bulb is burnt out.

do they have a code reader for it since it is not OBDII?

Advanced Auto no longer has the scanner for OBD1

If the check engine light is not working then a scan tester is required to read the codes from the ECM. The typical "OBD2 code reader" will not work. When you shop for a scan tester carefully research to make sure it supports a 1985 model. The cost for useful device will be 300-800 bucks.

Also, the Factory Service Manual contains wiring diagrams and instructions on how to repair the check engine light.

If you are SURE your SES light is burnt out or not working... I'd say check it out and replace the bulb- if it is burnt out. You can do this yourself. Then, you'd only be out the cost of the bulb before troubleshooting more thoroughly.

Then, check for codes with a paperclip by jumping the terminals on the ALDL.

Hib is right. A decent scan tool is a bit pricey!:ohnoes
