Two racing icons will unite when Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France winner, drives the 2006 505-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette Z06 pace car for the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 28, 2006. For a record 17th time, a Chevy will pace the race, and it's the eighth time for a Corvette to be leading the pack

Is anything special done to the car or is it strictly stock? I'm talking tires, suspension or any other type of mod.

I know it is just me, but I think the paint job on this car would look good in production without any of the badging. It would to me be a nice option if one could purchase one painted like this, e.g base paint or base paint w/badging.

IMHO

You know what they say about opinions, but here is mine. I think once again Chevy screwed up the paint job on an awesome automobile. When I first saw the paint job, I thought it looked like a big clowns face.

To me, the wider front air intake, coupled with the red stripe across the cars nose, combine to look like a big painted on clown smiley face. Other than the smiley face, I think the car looks awesome.

Having that Z06 in my driveway would make me happy too, even if I did have to look at the clown face every day. :)

As 6-Shooter pointed out there are mandatory items that need to be added such as the strobe lights and 4-point seat belts. There is also an on-board fire extinguisher. The 2004 Pace Car (the last I saw in person) also had a Corsa Exhaust installed as well as having a transmission fluid cooler and power steering fluid cooler. It likely had the Z-51 option too.

The '78 Pace Car Vette was the first car to pace the Indy 500 with no mods to make it go faster or brake better. Then again, '79 was the first year the pace car went on the track for yellow flag periods.
