Has anyone had this problem; after a ride sunday i pulled into the drive way and my choke and battery light came on. The engine idles around 1400 rpm for a few minitues when it is cold but drops off like the choke is working. I unplugged the wire to the choke on the carb and the light went out but the rpm's did not drop. The volt meter is only reading about 9 volts and it normally reads about 13. Could i have a short in something or maybe a bad alternator .:confused

Same thing happened to me when my alternator went bad, except I couldnt get my choke to disengage after the next cold start. 9 volts is way to low, 14 is where it should be I believe. Hope this helps.

Thanks , I put a new 85 amp alternator on today and everything works good. The only problem i had was that the plug connection was on the opposite side from my old one so i had to buy an extension adaptor.
