My car has developed a wierd clicking noise as the wheels go round, I have taken the wheel off and can't see anything that would cause this? Any ideas out there? seems to be from the rear left hand drivers side.

A frequent culprit is the "mickey mouse" clip that holds your brake line in place. Often if the "ears" are facing outward they will click on the wheel as it spins. This is an easy fix that requires nothing more than a peek with the wheel on and then a little movement of the clip.

Another culprit, the one that plagued my Vette, is the parking brake. Mine kept going out of adjustment and essentially not fully releasing so the edge of the shoe would click as the rotor hat spun around it.

Good Luck!

cheers for the speedy reply...I will check this out tommorow.

I took the wheel off the ground today and it spun then stuck? spun then stuck..could this be the parking brake?

This web site is the bomb!

The sticking would either be the rotor out of round or the E-brake hanging up and needing repair or replace. What ever it is that most likely the same source as the noise.

Good Luck looking.

Copdog is right, If there is sticking associated with the noise, you most likely have a dragging shoe in the parking brake or a rotor problem. The parking brake adjustment is pretty straightforward. There is a dial that can be accessed from below with a screwdriver. If the problem is the park brake, start by backing it off about a half turn at a time on the adjuster and see if that does the trick. If you adjust and it still makes no difference, you may have a return spring that is either too old or has popped loose.

Best of luck and let us know how you progress.

Let me just throw this out there: The first time I jacked my vette up to check the rear wheel, I jacked it up by the frame in the back. When I spun the wheel, there was noise and resistance, I thought my bearings were shot!! It turned out that when the car is jacked up, the wheel swings in a bit when the spring is not compressed and rubs against my parking brake cable. When I jack it up with the suspension still compressed, the wheel doesn't swing in and doesn't hit the cable. So just make sure that's not happening when you're checking your wheel.

Trim Rings

I had a clicking noise coming from my rear wheel that made me crazy. After many hours of investigative tweaking it turned out to be loose clips on the trim ring. Take the trim ring off and run it around the block before you go tearing anything apart.

Mine did the same thing....I'm looking for something monumental...the hub, spindle...ahhhhh...it was just the cotter pin that holds the brake pads in place was too long and rubbing against the rim...dooouuhhh!;) ;) ;)

Now I have lots of things to check out. BUT........the noise has stopped for now?

If it starts again I'll know what to look for. Thanks to all those who replied
