I have a clunk when i put my car in gear as well as when care down shifts? took in mech said ujoints were ok is it trans? or rear end? anyone with this problem in past how fix how much thanks ken

Had that problem in the past, and still have that problem now. I have went through two sets of axle shaft u joints, one set of drive shaft u joints. I have had the car at the shop, I have laid under it on jackstands while the drive train is engaged, and disengaged. I cannot locate it. I did notice some movement in the tranny when the car was put into gear, so I replaced the motor mounts, still no fix. I am almost thinking now about the tranny mount. As most have said, almost all C4's will have a frustrating noise.

I have a severe clunk when my 84 shifts from 1st to 2nd. Do you have that as well Betty?? or Vetteboy??
