Clutch considerations

Hey guys,

It seems it's time for a clutch upgrade as the car is overpowering the current Centerforce in the lower RPM range of 3rd and 4th gears. I know that Callaway upgraded the clutch before it left the shop, so my question is: Did they go to a larger diameter clutch, or is it stock diameter. And if it is the same diameter as stock, what is the measurement? Also, are there any suggestions to an affordable clutch setup that will hold 700+ crank torque?? The car is model year 1988 with the Doug Nash 4+3.

Callaway4Fun seems to have a clutch w/ solid clamping force - hopefully he will offer his thoughts on the matter :cool

Is that the clutch Pete has?? I cannot recall however, I think it is :confused

Im not sure what clutch Pete is running. The McLeod is rated for 1k hp, I believe.

My clutch is a Centerforce clutch it was made of new materials different from the old . It has a heavier clutch feel.

Josh, I have actually considered going the Mcleod route, but was trying to get off marginally cheaper than the $1K+ asking price. Still haven't been able to find the actual specs on the clutch (power handling capabilities), but I don't doubt your suggestion.

Has anybody had experience with the Mcleod?? How about the SPEC stage 3+? It's supposed to hold somewhere around 750 ft./lbs. of torque and still retain decent drivability.

Looking forward to reading about your experiences.

Say no more. His car makes quite a bit more torque, so it looks like the Mcleod may be the only option.

clamping wasn't the problem...it was fittment. certainly did not bolt right in if I recall.
