After telling about my "clutch slippage", I was recently told by a service tech that they would 1st check to see if my clutch fluid was "breaking down". Anyone know how to this procedure is done. How does the fluid "break down"? Thankyou.

Fairy tale.:L

On my 90 the clutch was only slipping when the car was warmed up. Seldom slipped when it was cold. I chased the hydraulic clutch system for over a yr. What seems to have been happening on mine is that the seal in the flywheel was leaking. The lube in the flywheel must be heavy and only leaked when it got hot. Eventually it wore the clutch disk enough that it started to slip when cold. Personally I wouldn't replace the disk on a dual mass without replacing the flywheel. Seems the dual mass flywheels are near impossible to find now so you may have to replace flywheel and clutch with a non dual mass replacement.
What I have been seeing is if your hydraulic system is giving trouble you will have trouble shifting because the clutch don't release all the way.

I haven't had any problems shifting from gear-to-gear?
THANKS

that they would 1st check to see if my clutch fluid was "breaking down". . How does the fluid "break down"?
I don't know about " breaking down " but it will absorb atmospheric moisture and should be changed regular just like brake fluid.

When I first bought my '87 ,I checked all the fluids then went for a long out of town drive.I lost the clutch because the water boiled out of the clutch fluid .Couldn't bleed it on side of road because bleeder was frozen in slave cyl so had to drive it home (1 1/2 hours) with no clutch.
Start in 3rd gear and use O/d to get 1:1. Lottsa fun slowing down for traffic lights and trying to prevent engine from stalling in 3rd.
Really makes you appreciate torque of L98
