car shudders in first when letting clutch up. its fine shifting in all other gears. (6 speed) my 91 callaway had a rebuild 3 yrs ago, but only 2,000 miles since. i asked callaway to check out clutch when they did the rebuild. they said over half left, no need to replace. a mechanic told me if they did not align it right it would wear out. callaway thought oil might have gotten on it. i would appreciate feedback. its going to callaway this wed.

Mine was making some noise in 1st several months ago, but it has gone away. My mechanic thought that maybe the throw-out bearing was bad or dry and was not worth to go into it unless the clutch was gone. The clutch was done some 7K miles ago and the throw-out bearing was replaced (before driving it to Carlisle from South Florida last year) and is not slipping, so I left it alone. It is running great at the moment (knock on wood!).

If its a 91 check the spacing between the crankshaft pulley and the wonderbar. It is possible that it might rub with engine torque as it is quite tight. In that case check the engine mounts.

Another thing to check is the hyd. clutch resevoir.

If its chattering, I always thought that was a sign of either a worn out clutch or serious race clutch, not really meant for street use.

I'm sure it wouldn't be the noise of the single-mass flywheel as that would only be when it is not in gear.

oil on clutch??????

callaway now has the car. they said they are "investigating". they found oil leaking out of tach. (or was it distributer) anyhow engine was rebuilt 2,000 miles ago. i asked how can this be? answer was they can get a bad gasket. they said the have no idea how long a gasket sits on shelf. im soooooo dissapointed in not only the car but in callaway. however, the people there are truely wonderfull. scott rawling actually came to my house and drove my car to old lyme. (im disabled now)

I do not think so in the least bit - A large group of the Callaway employees were at the track Friday night during the testing of Tony C.'s Comm. ed. C8 and the feeling I got couldn't be further from that. They are looking into the product line and seeing if a market exists for owners of past model Callaway's for upgrades, etc.
Callaway Cars, although a Performance / Engineering Icon is also a business and that has to be considered when making decisions on products, etc.

They will be at Carlisle again this year and have really kept the doors open for owners and enthusiasts alike :)

Keep the faith :m

That would be great....I just hope they realize that not all owners of TT cars make $150k year. Back in the hayday of the car, you had to make big bucks to buy one. Now just about anyone can purchase one.....Im living proof of that. I hope that the prices are reasonable if they do decide to get something going for us again.
