HELP! :o

Im having a hard time finding a good exhaust set up that will work on my 82. i wanted to run 3" dual pipes straight back and set my 40 series flowmasters on the ends....... but that would KILL my ride height. the pipes would come way too low........ i dotn want to cut through my frame as ive seen some people do. and my stock area for my factory system is way too small to run 2 pipes and get the curves in would cost an arm and a leg. i found soemthing i was wondering if anyone had tried......
http://www.carchemistry.com/ccinserts.html
these are header insertds i would want to get if they would match up to a street legal system. does anyone have these? if so how do they sound? i wanted to put the inserts in my new hooker comp headers and just run header dumps to the side.....

GrandsportC3 has them in his 68, he has the Hooker sidepipes and they do nothing to quiet down the car, you might as well run open pipes. I rode in his car and gong under an overpass at throttle it blasted my ears.

I deal mainly with the 4" baffles but you might want to talk with Jim at this site Spiral Turbo Specialties he may be able to come up with something for you.

Welcome Wichita vet I just live down the road in BellePlaine and got and 82 col. I am in Wichita all the time have to get together some time.

i just swapped to 3 inch side exuast with flowtech purple hornies at the end of them under the fiberglass side covers, great idle and loud when getting on it.

i dont have side covers or anything, with the 80-82 front and rear bumpers i didnt like them as much, unless i have chrome hookers :D but i dont, so i just want to take extensions out to the side in front of the rear wheels. the high rpm sound doesnt bother me too much, ;) i just dont want red&blue on me for having something too loud when i slowly pull form a stop light or idle...... ill wait for a few more postings and see what would work best. i found a guy that had these inserts on his rustang, and even with his 429ci built motor, it sounded half decent..... i want to find some chevy opinions though. cant compare a ford whine to a Chevy rumble. :_rock

Scott, do you know if he ran the 2 disk or 3 disk version? i tried to message GSc3 but i dont think its going through to him.

I believe he has the 2 insert set. I may have a video file of his car on my site, check the Misfit Racing page as well as the Sound & Video pages for either GSC3 or GrandsportC3 files, that may give you an idea of what they sound like. On Olivier's car with Hooker sidepipes they sound just like open pipes, REAL loud! :D I like the sound but here the cops would be on you like white on rice.

witchita have you ever seen those oval shaped exhaust systems maybe that will cure your ground clearance problem

where can i go about getting oval piping? how would i get it converted to my stock pipes? sounds like an idea, and might actually look pretty good =) nice oval tail pipes...... yea ;) i think i am going witht he inserts, makng the order on monday....... finished my longblock yesterday and finishing wiring tonight before the extreme cold (and snow) thats coming to KS....... anyone know where I might beable to get a set of used side pipes like scotts? New prices are killer...... and yea i do watch ebay........... no sets i like much...... i love the look of youre 80-82 body w/sidepipes btw scott.......

wichitacorvette- thanks! I wouldn't know where to look for oval pipe, and as for used sidepipes.....well that's a sore spot with me. I shipped a set to Chris(69myway) back on October 21st via FEDEX and they were scanned in at the office and never seen again....after fighting with those morons for 2 months I finally got them to settle the insurance claim today, that's my last time dealing with FEDUP. Every now and them a nice set pops up on ebay but you really have to watch. If you want just the sidetubes Summit has them for $100 each which isn't too bad, Jet-Hot will cost you $400 for the pair with coating. The only research I've done about sidepipes is the 4" Hookers so I can't offer any other info, sorry. If you want the whole set with headers/sidetubes Jet-Hot coated I believe they will give you a discount down to something like $1050 if you tell them your a member of the other forum. Todd is the guy to talk to.

witchita

I saw them on a ricer site first but then saw them in the back of a car magazine, was a vette magazine I believe, anyways there not in kit form you have to build it yourself I think, the oval piping looks like it will cure any clearance problems you have and a 4inch set looks like it is narower than a 2-2-1/2 set of pipes

ok, ill keep an eye for the oval pipes, itd be great to have a 3" pipes that can scrunch to maybe smaller than 2". do you think the same place would have reducers from my round 3" collectors?

not to metion, no one would have oval pipes.... :)

witchita

the companies name is Spintech ....there ad say they also sell transition pipes from round to oval So that wont be a issue for youthey claim increase in ground clearance of 33% ... they offer straight & bent pipes so its my guess that you will like I said before fab your own exhaust they offer 3" / 3 1/2 / 4" & 5" pipe here is there number 1-888-550-7746
