Should I buy the column lock bypaas , what percent of Vette's have a problem, and if I have a problem will the dealer fix it fo free. My 99 is no longer under warranty, thanks Jim.

Hi there,
Your 99 is involved in the recall for the column lock issue, 01044a.
I would simply visit your local dealership, and confirm that the recall was or was not done.
It will not cost you a cent.
Also, if the recall is done correctly, this will resolve your concern, and should not have an occurance of the column lock.

c4c5, guess what. My car had the recall work done, as mine is a 99 and the vin fell in the specified range. The last three days, as I mentioned on a previous post, my battery was dying . During this time the "service column lock" was displayed on the dic. Yesterday, i bought a new AGM battery as you suggested. Not only does the car start perfectly again, but the "service column lock" does not appear anymore! Could a discharged battery cause this to happen? But now, I have another problem! The air conditioning is not working properly. I have the dual ac system, and it only blows cold air on the passenger side and NOT the drivers side. After looking in the fuse box and checking some fuses, and actually trying to verify if there was a bad fuse, I did not find any, but i did not check them all. The ac compressor turns on, and the blower fans work, I just can't get cold air on the drivers side. What did I do?Please help!

Hi there,
I would suggest that you remove the #27 minifuse from the toeboard inside fuse block.
Leave it out for 3 mins, and then reinstall.
Turn your car on, and hit the auto button, and set your temps for full hot.
After that time, let me know how you do, as this should reset your temperature mode actuators.

C4C5, you did it!!!! I can't tell you enough, how utterly valuable you are to this forum and to Corvette enthusiasts across our great land. Your information is, as always, right on it. thanks again.....Herbie

Personally, from talking to others I had no faith that the CL fix via GM was going to work well. I ended up putting the CLB on my 2000. No problems, and no longer any worries.

Hi there,
I can tell you also from personal service experience, that there is 90% of those whom have a reoccurance, tracing it to people whom do NOT perform the column lock recall correctly. The other 10% were due to just other problems.
This is exactly why they had to revise it to 01044a, to add a part, so that everything would have to be changed in accordance with the recall.
As for the CLB, I do NOT recommend this course of action, as there is NOT sufficient load on the BCM, and could lead to further BCM issues later on in the cars life.

C4C5 , same problem

Paul, I had to disconnect the battery to fix the headlight motor gear, ac was working fine. Same problem again, driver side ac hot and passenger cold. Pulled 27, no luck. what am i doing wrong?

HI there,
I would suggest that you might have an actuator problem.
Are there any codes in the HVAC????
It could be that the actuator is not resyncronizing after.
Let us know, c4c5

Yes, two codes:
B0441 h/c (this one continues to come back after clearing the dic)
B0361h
When i clear the dic i can hear the ACTUATOR moving. There is a writeup on the other forum about indexing two teeth, or needing a 2001+ actuator assembly. I could use the part#. I am going to try to get inside this thing and have a look, maybe there are broken teeth in there or something like that, similar to the headlight gear. Here is the link:

let me know what you think, and as always, we thank you for your kind assistance.

C4C5, guess what? It appears that the dealer replaced the actuator, when i replaced the coolant tank, July 13 of this year. The receipt says blend door clicking, replaced with 89018365 actuator. Could this still be the problem??

Hi there,
I can actually suggest that there is a wiring harness issue, maybe terminal tension at the actuator or at the control head.
There is also a preliminary service document about the actuator NOT being installed correctly in relation to the teeth on the gear, so that when the actuators attempt a rehome, they cannot get full travel.
The actuator is the correct part number, but I would really check to see if the actuator gets full travel.
Also, this can be read with a Tech 2.
