I suppose I should introduce myself here. I posted it in the "Off Road Lounge" but....

I totally re-did an '84 (except for the powerplant) and then got rid of it like an idiot for a '97 M6. Nice car, but I missed the '84. (pics at http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=2640029&uid=680057 )

Totally stripped it down and re-painted with a custom blue, 24K gold flake in the clear. 16" wheels (no spacers) low profile tires, all new interior, new exhaust, gutted cat, '85 fuel pump, 12 disk CD player and stereo. Gold accent trim. Cold air mod. Probably a ton of other stuff that I've forgotten about.

I've kicked my butt every day since I got rid of it. NOT that there's anything at all wrong with the C5 but it just didn't "feel" right to me. Too comfy for my liking. Kinda like driving a high performance Buick. (NO offense meant to any C5 ladies or gents!! Just not for me)
Well. A couple of weeks ago I was out in the C5 and the guy who bought the '84 last spring pulled out in front of me. So I get up behind him and I'm honking and waving him over. He pulled over and we talked. He told me he wondered if I was crazy and I said "possibly"

We talked a bit as all Vette owners do and I told him that if he ever sold it I wanted first shot. As luck would have it he has to sell it now for $ reasons.

As of Monday night, the C5 is sold and I'll have my old friend back in the garage by this weekend hopefully assuming the check clears in time to get him the $ for my old car by that time.

That's a great story. welcome back!! Guy

Alright Steve!!!

Welcome back... um... to the dark side??? :D

Thanks guys! I'm like a kid a Xmas waiting to get it back. Should be back in the garage, insured, registered this Friday. Of course, I'll probably spend the rest of the weekend detailing it to my satisfaction.

I'm sure that I'll be talking about the '84 with you over time. Certainly not one of the most saught after years but..... "Mikey" duncare. :D

Welcome back to the fold of 84 Vette owners.

Cross Fire Owners UNITE!!!

Amazing story! Glad you're happy again and driving your previous C4.

Just wondering, but what is the big difference between the c4 and c5. I've heard and read a lot about people liking the 4 better.

If I could only give a short answer: Personal preferance

<personal opinion, not meant to offend anyone>

The C4 just "feels" like a road handling sports car and I feel the road. Yes, it's a rougher ride, tougher to get in and out of, older, not as technologically advanced, yada yada yada. As I said, to me, driving the C5 felt like driving a high performance Buick Century. Very smooth ride, too smooth for me. I didn't like the "gliding" feeling. Don't get me wrong, it's one hell of a car, just not for me. It handles extrememly well and I certainly had no complaints about the power.
</personal opinion....>

Again, it's just personal preferance. Drive 'em both and go with what you like. I've been "slammed" by C5 owners for going back to a C4. Know what? I really don't care. It's what I like. Do it for you.

Oh, and for any crossfire owners out there (Not the new Mopar's of course ;) ) if you haven't checked out the CFI vault, do yourself a favor and do it.

Both forums are great and have their own benifits.

Thanks for all of the good wishes.

Yea, we saved his seat.... :cool

HEY! Who put this tack in his seat??? Dang C5 owners! ;LOL ;LOL

I can TOTALLY understand you wanting to buy your C4 back. And now you have! :upthumbs

If I ever sold my C4, I would be kicking myself in the butt immediately. I will be holding onto mine for a long time. :D

Please post pics of your awesome car.

Save The Wave! :w

I want a C5....but my wife don't understand me wanting to keep the C4. Guess I'll have to show her this thread. ;)

so i guess a C4 is for a guy that wants a muscle car that handles like one. i am like you i like to work on my own vette, its my hobby. C5 owner don't have to work on there, well yet give them 15 years!!

I never saw any of my 'old friends' again after I sold them. I probably would have tried to buy them back, all except the '72 Celica liquidated to get a '63 vert. Never looked back on that one!

Got out in the country last Friday and received some fine compliments on the C4. Just a reminder how great this generation is. Kind of in between the rough and the smooth.

Never heard it put like that before, cool observation, I think you’re right.
