Driving home several weeks ago, I got cought in a rain shower close from home. Now I always knew the top in the front allowed air to come into the car, but now I also learned that the rain comes in as well! The top latches fine into place so I'm thinking this is normal. But today, I went for a drive and the weather is turning brisk here in NJ. The air rushing in at the top gets kind of annoying after a while. Do I just resign to accepting that this is normal or what? The vette is my Sunday driver, but what did other people used to do with their daily drivers? Guess they took fewer showers at home :eyerole

My 64 is my daily driver. When I first got it, it leaked also. The first thing I fixed was the old weatherstripping for the soft top. Replaced all of it and haven't had a leak since. I drive it everyday rain or shine and the only thing that gets wet is my left foot, since my windshield leaks a little. Once I replace the windshield gasket, the car should be watertight.

My car is watertight to 85mph in a storm. I have replaced my weatherstrip twice in 15 years. To get the header seal to stand up to high speed in the rain, I added an extra aftermarket seal between the rubber weather strip and the vinyl bead.

WHAT SHAPE IS YOUR CAR IN? I recently finished resto of my '65 vert, and mine is completely watertite, in all areas. If you do a more careful job than the UAW did in the mid sixties, then your car will be dry.

The car is is very good shape, However, I believe the top is due for a weather stripping replacement. The weather strip on the header doesn't seal the top to the metal all the way, there is a gap. I'm guessing that replacing the strip will cure the problem. I'm thinking of adding an extra strip like magic v8 suggested.

thanks, MC

MC:

Okay. As long as you're sure that the header latches are properly adjusted, then the header weatherstrip is the culprit
