Hey there, does anyone have a complete diagram of the exhuast system for an 81'. Im wondering all the dimensions of the openings and what parts to modify.

Also Im wondering if it can all be done yourself.

Nobody?

Comaaaaan. Nada?

Well how about this basically Im trying to figure wether or not to completely replace the exhaust in a 81' to let breathe better. Also i want to get a great sound as well. So maybe Ill just ask my questions.

Are headers headers? Dynomax makes a header and so does Hooker that look exactly alike and Hooker makes the exact same thing for $60 more and the SuperComps are $330. They are both 1"5/8 primarys and 3"collectors. Also does ceramic coating help in the passing of gases(hey... not funny) or something?

Are the exhaust pipes going to match the header's ends or am I going to have to get new ones or an adapter piece of some sort. But wouldnt getting larger ones be better anyways if theyre not already 3in pipes (straight back dual exahusts).

Now for mufflers I was looking at the Flowmaster 40 series but they have a 2.5-2.25 inlet and theres one w/a 3inch inlet but w/ dual pipes, which would make 4 tailpipes in all. Which one would go? Also what about glasspacks? They seem cheap but would they increase power since they seem to not restrict as much? Do they sound like crap?

Catalytic converters? Where are those in the picture cause I dont think I want them. Its real easy here in San Antone to get some guy to just give you an inspection sticker w/o looking at your stuff.

OK sorrry about the paper but I just want to get a firm grasp on things from the experts and the search button isnt helping. In summation
-Dynomax headers
-Flowmaster 40's
-3inch exhaust pipes???????????????

From what I've learned, $-for-$, the ceramic-coated DYNOMAXs are the best value.
The ceramic-coating helps heat dissipation (spelling?).
Headers extend faurther back than OEM manifolds.
Flow 40's are widely-regarded as the best; glass-packs are cheapie...
If you CAN get-away w/o the cat, do so (but I didn't 'tell' you that!)
3" pipes for a 'stock' '81 is way too much; 2.5"s are plenty.
DYNOMAX/no-cat/Flows/2.5"s is cost-effective, and best for stock L81

Yeah see I thought the Dynomaxs looked good but and seem to be a better deal but when I searched for them in the forums nothing came up and all Ive read about are the ones from Hooker.

So the 81' stocked w/ 2.5's and thats plenty? Great.

So I was on the right track then, good. Thanks Cheif.
