Took the ZO6 on about a 300 mile fast jaunt Friday with plenty of high speed spurts and it clearly runs better now....as in more power. Prior to the run, the car was putzed around town on 40 mile errands and the like for a few weekends.

I really don't believe that a modern fuel injected car that controls fuel intake, air, timing, etc. builds up the carbon that needs to be "blown out" like some people still think. Am I wrong on this?

The question is: does the ECU adjust itself to make the car perform better after a hard drive? I used to have an M series BMW that acted the same way. :pat

Hi there,
It could be almost anything. Yes, the PCM is a learning ECU and will compensate for driving style.
However, there are other things that may have happened. You could have flushed out contamination from the fuel injectors, possibly burned off internal carbon from the pistons, anything is possible.
I would suggest these possibilities.

I've got an '87 Buick T-Type Turbo that is the same way. When I used to take it to the track, the first run always sucked. The second and third were always much better. It's almost like you have to let the car know that you're about to race so that he(the car) can get ready to race!:_rock
