I have a 93 Vette ...just wondering if anyone knows a way of taking care of a mild console scratch.

I have a 4" scratch on the black, shiny/pebbly surface of the console ...the plastic part that, if sat in the passenger seat, you would see on the outer edge of the console where the Engine Metrics and other buttons are.

The surface is that black, hard shiny/pebbly surface ...the scratch is NOT deep but visible enough to be seen quite well when the light hits it properly.

To tell the truth, if I could make the contour of the scratch "pebbly" like the rest of the surface, the scratch would be invisible.

Any ideas ?

ONLY ONE!

If ours was scratched even as little as you describe.. I'd have to replace it. That would be my recommendation 'cause no matter how good you repair it you'll always be able to see it and it would drive you crazy!! At least, it would me!! Maybe you are different!

Tried the shoe polish number ...no luck!

Some time ago I came across an auto fabric repair kit ...kit had some "stuff" that you could apply on holes/scratches and had a plastic "stick" that had a texture. When you pressed the "Stick" on the "stuff" the texture was embedded in the "stuff". When the "stuff" dried, it looked pretty darn good.

I have not been able to find that kit lately ...I suspect that if I dont find a decent "fix" I shall indeed have to buy a replacement console piece. Just hate to tear apart dash for the sake of this small scratch ...but I will ...rather than let this scrtach "bug" me!

I got a J.C. Whitney catalog not too long ago and it had the repair kit your talking about. Never used one so I don't know the results but if you had good luck with it before you might want to look them up on the net.

Thanks ...yes it worked fine ...I'll check them out!

Gosh ...I didn't know they were still in business :-)

Yes I was surprised they were still in business also. Used them quite a bit back in my motorcycle days and VW Beetle times. They are on the net at www.jcwhitney.com
Not as large a catalog as it was years ago but they still sell those leather, cloth, vinyl repair kits. I guess its a less expensive alternative to replacing the console and with a little patience you might get ok results. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
