Constant wheel "squeak"

A truck just passed my house and as it was going I heard a constant sqeak as if coming from it's wheels. And it didn't seem to be applying the brakes, so I was wonder what would cause this? Maybe his rotors are warped or mis-shaped? Maybe rotor rub on his calipers? Any idea what would cause this?

Could be any number of things - bad/worn brake linings, wheel bearings, center prop shaft bearing, etc.; when things that rotate don't get proper maintenance, they squeal, then fail. Most larger trucks get pretty decent preventive maintenance, as the owners can't afford to have them off the road for repairs without affecting their businesses.

How would you keep stuff like the wheel bearings maintained so they don't, I assume in this case, dry out?

Remove, clean, and re-pack/lubricate them at the specified maintenance intervals; simple job, but if it's ignored, a bearing failure tears up a lot of other much more expensive parts.

Disc brake wear indicators will give off the most irritating squeak if the pad wears to the point where the metal tab rubs the disk surface. My experience is that they only squeal when there is no brake applied. Lightly touching the brake silences the sound.
