Does anybody have info or pics of a 78 or later car that has been converted to a convertible car. I have seen these from time to time and wondering does anybody have one of these cars? and how challenging is the conversion?etc.

It is probably a greater challenge due to the large rear window as opposed to a 75 thru 77.

Thanks for any replies.

I have an '81 that was cahnged to a convertible when it was new with new 1975 parts. Have pictures i can email.

billyvette:
I have seen a few '80-up C3s converted to drop-tops on a few different Corvette Forums in the past year.
I think the best one that I saw (Black-on-Red) was in a 2-3 year old issue of Corvette Fever or VETTE magazine, done by a bodyman in Oklahoma (Enid, OK?).
The top wasn't only whacked-off, but the windshield shortened (speedster-style), the rear 1/4-panels were made 'taller', wheel-wells were radiused 'bigger', and C5 wheels-and-tires were installed (the bodyman tried to make the C3 look 'C5-ish'!!!)

HI, okay, here's the BIG question. appx how much did you spend on the parts and labor? for the conversion

Agreed...best-looking heavily modified C3 I've ever seen.
Can almost "see" the influence of the C5 the owner envisioned...

Wow that car looks sweet! Makes me almost want to chop the top off my '79.

If my '82 didn't have just 11,000-original miles, with NO flaws, I'da towed it to Oklahoma when I first saw that article!!!

Yeah I think that's pretty hot. He definitely did a nice job on that. Looks like a modern Shark. :)

Maybe it's because of the convertible conversion, but doesn't that look like it's a chopped top? I think that's very sleak looking. Doesn't look like it goes as high as normal Sharks or even factory conv. Sharks go.

Where are those pictures from? The windshield appears to be raked back as well as chopped. Looks very nice
