I'de like to add a rear window defroster grid to my hardtop. But not sure whats involved in adding one. Or how about to go and have one custom made or something. My car had one from the factory so everything is there to make it work. So I figured with just a quik disconnect plug I could have a defroster on my back window.

My advice is to purchase the 82 assembly instruction manual and take a look at the original factory installation for the coupe with the optional rear window defroster. The AIM will show the wiring harness and relay positions. Wiring harness is possibly now gone off your car; the relay might still be in front of the jack storage compartment.

Once you know what you have, you can work from there.

Everything is still in the car and it all worked before it was converted into a convertible. So hopefully it's just a matter of putting a grid on the back window and plugging it in.

I used a JC Whitney defroster kit (yep - I really did) when the defroster grid on my 20 year old Mercedes went bad. Living in PA meant I needed clean windows. Anyhow, the kit included copper grids, that you cut to length, attached to a vertical section. The vertical section had a power lead and a ground to deliver power to the grid. Then, you only needed to add a power source. It took me a couple of hours to install but worked quite well. Not as good as OEM but still well enough to keep my window clear.
