I have an 86 convertible that is in desperate need of weather stripping for the top. Anyone know where the best material that is the closest to the original GM material is? I have checked with the Chevy dealer here and they said it is no longer available.
Please help.
Thanks

"Real" GM weatherstripping will cost hundreds of dollars. Mid-America Motorsports has complete kits: a GM kit for $450 and a reproduction kit for $300. They also have individual pieces.

Go to the MAM Website www.mamotorworks.com and enter these part numbers:

GM kit 600-118
Repro kit 611-630

The other accessory catalogs will probably have similar kits and prices.

Use a good adhesive like the 3M weatherstrip adhesive (spray or tube) and make sure you remove all of the old weatherstripping and the old adhesive.

When you get the replacement weatherstip installed, you should apply a coat of dielectric grease (silicone) at least once a year to keep the rubbery coating from drying out and cracking. I use the Permatex stuff that you can find at any auto parts store.

Mid-America sells the materials but you can usually fins the same stuff at auto paint supply strores or auto parts stores.
