I have a question for all you convertible people: is it ok to use the "Touchness" car washes on the convertible? I’d like to run the convertible through on of those "Touchness" car washes to knock the dirt off until I have the opportunity to pamper my Baby. Will the water pressure have any effect on the top?

They put it through a "high pressure" water test when they wheel it of the assembly line so I do not think there should be a problem.

Make sure the top is up.

But seriously,

I'm sure the top would not leak as it is very well designed, has a small surface area and is generally very tight. However, convertible top or not, there are some overall issues associated with automatic car washes.

1. Damage form prep people (used at some car washes) with their bug removal brushes.
2. Harsh soaps that will strip away wax.
3. Potential equipment failures during the washing process.
4. Recycled water - used by many car washes to conserve water.

I know some of these car washes advertise the fact that they are "touchless", but at some point something has to touch the surface of the car in order to remove the dirt. And that is generally where the trouble begins at "all" car washes.

Just my opinion - Remo

I always wash my car using the high pressure spray by hand. I avoid touchless, had a bad expereince with a car a few years ago ended up with scratches from the hanging straps.

Thanks for the input. I ran it through a "touchless" carwash and had great results. That is, if I ignore the water that poured in between the top and the window! I guess that I need to have the top adjusted the next time I take it in. Thanks again.

Dave, the roadster is bound to leak regardless of what tests the factory runs on leaks prior to introduction. I doubt that a top adjustment will do the trick, rather concentrate on the window stops. Good luck!

I don't trust anyone but myself to wash my C-5. Hand wash and wax no problems. This allows me to be in personal contact with the car and to be able to see all the blemishes as they are encountered and make a mental note to avoid being angry at the wrong issues. Good Luck!

Greenie, I don't know just how good of an attribute this is, but this car cost way too much to be lax at any time.

Yep! I see that you posted on the topic of the steering column locking up. Kinda makes the washing and waxing take a back seat! Thats scary stuff. I plan on calling my dealer tomorrow to see if I have an "affected VIN."

Greenie, another gentleman posted that his C-5 was not in the listed vehicles and that he had the problem. His dealer made the change for him.

Steve just posted that his 2001 WAS included in the recall, had it replaced and it STILL FAILED. I know Chevy will eventually get it right but at what psychological expense to us owners.

Hello everyone, could somone please let me know what is the best polish for my vette, I live in the harsh out back of Australia.

Almost everyone I know has a preference to what detailing products they use. I like Zymol but Zaino gets a lot of votes.
Consumer Guide rates most of the major brands also. You can check out their site on the net. Good Luck!!!

The only poilsh that has ever seen the paint surface on any of my corvettes over the last 10 years is LIQUID GLASS. The stuff is fantastic. But that is only my opinion. I thnik I've converted over at least a third of the club I'm in to use it and they all love it.

Dragonslayer, what amount of time do you give for the Liquid Glass to set up? I used to use it on my C4`s but got away from it and turned to Mothers.

It is very important that you use a very thin coat of LIQUID GLASS when you apply it to the paint. There is no need to use an excess amount. I usualy wait around 5 minutes after applying to wipe off. I wipe off the excess with one cloth and use a second cloth to get that final shine. Hope this helps.:Twist :Twist :Twist
