Well folks-

I found out that if you are going 140mph and you hit a small bump, the top edge of your window can pop over the keeper and IT GETS REALLY LOUD!!!

Oh- and there isn't anything wrong with the car or the window. Slow down, roll down, roll up, keep driving. Poop happens, right?

Anyone had that problem?

Many of the early C5's didn't seem to have the windows adjusted to seal tight enough against the weatherstripping to prevent this from happening.

In some cases you can also get the windows to pop out at the top if you have the AC or fan on when you get to speed - the interior pressure can build up faster than it can get out, so the inside air pressure will push the side windows out. Had this happen to my old 98 once as I was heading for 160+. It got a little loud.

Like you said, slow down, roll down and then back up and they go back where they should.

Do a search here as there once was a window adjustment procedure posted describing how to adjust the windows to put more pressure on the weatherstripping to mitigate this issue.

Just keep it under 140 and you should have no problem ;LOLI try to limit my high speed bursts to 135 for that reason.

140?:W :crazy ...you have a death wish?:L

If you have a quick car, you can do 140 + in less than a mile. What's wrong with that?

The C5 is quite stable at high speed unlike my C3, now that is a wild ride at anything over 100 :L

High Speed Scare

Yup, I've had that happen too. I was going about 160 (not the smartest thing to do, I know) and all of a sudden... WOOOSHHHHHHHHHHHH. I had my eyes so focused on the road ahead of me and so tense from going so fast that it scared the bejeebers out of me... serioulsy! It was my driver's side window, just getting sucked over the retaining clip. Needless to say, I immediately slowed down. I haven't had it happen but once...maybe my window was not 'completely' up to begin with? But, I can relate. I can't really complain though. I mean, 160mph is pushing it; what if a tire went out?! I'd end up like that Porsche Carrera GT posted this morning on here ( http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67808&page=2&pp=15 ) All in all, a good safety feature to get you to slow the F@! down ;)

Happy driving...

Hi Jeff -

I think there was an improvement to the window clips after 98. I know they were upgraded at some point for just this reason.

I have never had his problem on our 99 or 02 - and both have seen high speeds occasionally. :D

Window clips...

Thanks Andy,

There could have been an improvement to the clips post-98, however I became a member of a special club and 'should' have received newer clips?!

This special club I talk about is often referred to as the 'Flying Roof Club'... I'm a proud member and joined only about a week after first receiving my Corvette. Boy was that a great day ;LOL ....... :cry

Anyway, I got a new roof panel and had to assemble it, new clips and all. I'm wondering if it's just the actual placement of these clips. When assembled, I noticed they could be placed or 'slid' just about anywhere. I'll have to compare next time I'm in good company of some familiar rides :cool

Hi Jeff -

Gimme a call tonight and I will look up that info about your AC comp install.

I will be polishing the final front rim on my Z tonight.

When I do high speed runs in my 2002 Coupe, I shut the AC and heat controls to off and don't allow fresh air into the cabin. This prevents lots of noise and I don't notice the windows pushing out the sides. I get plenty of chances at 165 + MPH runs in Europe on the Autostrada and Autobahn.

Aint that the truth... C3s can be scary!

I pulled my old '78 to 120 once on I-70 coming back from KC... OMG it was a rush! I thought I was going to DIE in that thing... but man, was it cool!!!
