I was planning on changing my coolant this weekend and could not find the block drain plugs on my '71. Am I missing something or does our engine not have any block drain plugs. If not, what is the procedure for draining all the coolant from the system.

At about the mid-point of the block casting, just above the oil pan rails.

Two, pipe-threaded plugs. OE were hex-headed plugs.

Hip,
I saw a hex head plug directly above the oil filter. I saw another 1/2" or so bolt head by the starter facing toward the rear of the car. Are these the ones you are talking about? Thanks for the reply.
Frank

One drain block on each side of block midway above oil pan. Plugs are blocked by ignition shielding which will need to be removed to gain access. Drivers side shielding is secured by two bolts and not difficult to remove. Passenger side did require that the starter is loosened to gain access to the shielding. Loosen the two main starter bolts but do not remove completely. Starter also has a bracket securing starter to block and has 2 bolts with one of them below the spark plug. With this bracket removed and the starter loosened you can wiggle the igition shielding enough to remove it. Remember to disconnect battery.
