Question: Coolant Path/Travel??

('94 LT1): When does the coolant enter the plastic "coolant recovery" tank? Is the recovery tank part of the "normal" path for the coolant or
do special circumstances have to take place, ie: abnormal tempts or
overheating. Also. should the coolant level be at the "hot" mark of the tank always during normal engine operation? Thanks
 
The coolant recovery tank is nothing more than an expansion tank for the coolant. When it gets hot it expands, the tank allows for this other words very bad things could happen. Yes, it should be around the hot mark when the engine is fully warmed. Should be around the cold mark when cold.
