Correct Carb for '70 LT-1

Hi Folks , New to the forum and am finally working on the car after a long lay off. The carb was stolen and I need info on the original replacement also what could I use until I find an original.
I am the original owner of this LT-1 but it has been stored since carb was stolen 8 years ago. I would like to know carb model numbers etc. I think it was a 850 Holley double pumper.

I have a holley 780 dual feed which was originally on a BB it has been modified with the choke horn milled off and blended in adjustable vacuum canister holley trick kit Should bolt on and may even be the correct carb. It was on my 383 before I switched to TPI and probably needs gaskets e-mail if interested I have assorted springs, cams, jets etc which will go with it as I dont plan on running a carb on anything anymore I do have the list number around somewhere

I'm pretty sure the Holly 780 is the correct LT-1 carb for 1970.

If you are going for a "numbers matching" carb, you will need to find a Holly R4555A, with GM part #3972121 stamped on the air horn. If it was a Calif. car, an R4489A #3972123 was used. They were 780 CFM as the guys said. They can be a little pricey- Chicago Corvette has them for $595. I have an extra for my '71 (would be different #s) that I really don't need if you are interested also.

Thanks for the response guys, That is what I needed to know. I will be e mailing you both on details about your carbs. And I can start saving my pennies for the "Matching numbers" version. I am glad to see that it is available. Have any of ya'll done business with Chicago Corvettes and how was it.

The #'s MidShark gave ya look right, I just checked my Corvette Black Book...but as far as it being a 780...I'm not so sure. I'm finding that it was in fact a 850cfm for the 1970 LT-1.

I cleaned up my 780 put new gaskets on it and put it on e-bay

Gonzotrader. sorry for the delay. The correct carb can be found for that price. They will need a serious rebuild. They are usually higher but I have found them.

Swap meets also tend to be a great source.

If you manage to save all your pennies and nickles by next January, you might try to find the #'s "correct" carb at the flea market held as part of the Florida NCRS meet in Orlando. Dates for next year are Jan 22/23. Understand this 'Vette flea market is second in size only to the one at Carlisle, PA this August.

LT1 carbs for sale

I have 2 original Gm carbs for sale. The list numbers are #6238 and 6239.
The 38 is missing the choke housing and linkage and needs to be overhauled.
The 39 was prepped by the Carb Shop in California, blue printed and restored. It flows over 800 cfm.
