The title says it all. I've got the points and the Feeler gauge.
What's the correct setting?

Thanks.

Pedro

I have been away from cars for years (just getting back in), but I thought GM points were set with a dwell meter and an allen wrench type screwdriver (or allen wrench) with the engine running. (Have I forgotten everything I knew...)

Get and use a dwell meter and set them, using a 1/8" allen key, with the engine running at idle, warmed up, to 28-32 degrees. Then set the timing to where it runs best. with the vacuum removed from the distributor and the vacuum line plugged, set it to about 8-10 degrees BTDC.

If you MUST do it the old fashioned way, the points are gapped at .019 :gap

The guys are dead on I set mine today 28 on the dwell b/c they were old, 10 degrees and adjusted the a/f mix. Runs much better, BUBBA had the dwell at 20 and the timing somewhere north of 14 degrees and I don't remember my a/f mix. The only bad thing now is that I know the starter is the problem of my hard starts.. Oh the joys of the midyear.. Hope this helps..Dave..

Thank you all for your replies.
I 'preciate the help.
