Corsa Touring vs. stock at cruise speed

I'm looking for an exhaust system that will run quieter at cruising speeds -- 70-80 MPH -- than the stock system. I'm considering the Corsa Touring exhaust system and would appreciate feedback on this product.

I would imagine that most road noise at cruising speed is tire noise or accoustic in nature ..(open trunk area more so than exhaust..IMHO)

Try Dyna matting under the carpet?

The Corsa touring is a very nice exhaust system..for a more exciting sound during acceleration..but at idle..I'd be surprised if it actually made the car quieter than stock.

oNe more thing..on my 99 C5..I switched from runflats at about 18K miles to Pilot sport non runflats and both the ride got smoother..and the sound level went way down as well..

Could it be your runflats have gotten old? I would have said stiff but right out of the box..runflats are like rocks..

Goodluck.

Thanks for your reply. The folks at Corsa Performance told me they didn't have sound pressure level (DBA) comparisons with stock systems, but estimated the Corsa Touring is about 2 db less than stock at steady cruising speeds. Generally, a 3 db change is necessary before a listener will hear the difference. However, I thought the elimination of resonance might produce a noticeable subjective drop in noise levels, especially in the 2000 rpm range where there is some resonance in sixth gear with the stock system.

I actually removed the OEM runflats when my car was delivered and put on a set of Michelin Pilot A/S ZP tires. They are excellent. Had some Goodyear F1 GS tires on a Camaro Z28 and they were extremely noisy.

And as you suggested, I'm planning to install Dynamat/Dynaliner throughout the cargo area. That might do job without going to an aftermarket exhaust. I want to do some cross-continent touring and a quieter ride will mean less fatigue and qreater comfort.

Thanks again for the advice.

I used to have the Corsa Touring system and can confirm, it really was as quiet and non-resonant as you can probably get.

If you are in an "every little helps" mode then it would IMNSHO be a good bet to get one.

Besides it'll look MUCH nicer, once on the car, than those dull black OE mufflers!

(In case you were wondering, I have the GHL system on my car now, having decided that I wanted to experience LOUD - but still minimal resonance.)

Corsa System

I, too, have that system, and it is quiet! Until you drop the hammer that is!!

Looks pretty good too!

Yeah, i was going to say the Corsa systems seem to be EXTREMLY quiet @ idle/cruise, but like almost every system on the LS1, they SCREEEEAAAAAAAM @ WOT. When you want the wolf to come out, just stomp on that pedal, and the sheep will run in fear...:D

Someone requested info on the Corso Touring Sysystem

what's the difference between Corsa Touring and Corsa Indy in terms of power enhancement and in terms of sound both at cruising and when "hammering" it?

I have the Pacecar exhaust and think they probably sound alike at idle and cruise, but the pacecar is a bit louder on acceleration. I've been asked numerous times by Mustang & Camaro drivers what kind of exhaust I have; however, the best compliment came from a gentleman who simply said "Wow, that actually sounds like a Corvette!"

Because of the catalytic converters, the power "enhancement" of the old days is not as significant or noticable anymore. It will probably sound faster than it actually gets.

Touring and Pace Car are the same at cruise, Pace Car (a/k/a Indys) will be louder when at medium to full throttle.

Neither have any resonance on the interior at cruise, which cannot be said about other after market systems.

Like others, I too have the Pacecar (Indy) exhaust w/ Pro 3.5 tips and I think that they both (Pace Car & Touring) sound alike at idle and cruise, but the Pacecar is louder when you drop the hammer ...

I'd also suggest that you get the corsa X Pipe .. it makes everything more mellow (not quiter) ...

Good luck on your search .. you can't go wrong either way .. this is a very high quality exhaust system ...

Forgot to mention that. C4c5specialist, a friend, and I were swapping exhausts back and for this past Saturday, because my friend did not care for the sound of his newly purchased PRTs on his '02 Z06.

We put the PRTs on my car (with the X-pipe), and the Corsa Indys on his car -- without the X-pipe.

A huge difference in sound and note -- the "motor boat" idle everyone always talks about was gone -- really mellows out. We did this side by side -- so it was pretty noticable and definitive.

We also discovered one thing -- there is also a marked difference in sound between pre-cat (my NE '00) and non-pre-cat (his NE '02) cars. The sound will definitely be louder all around.

So factor that into your purchase. If you have no pre-cats, and volume is an issue, you may consider the Touring.

I replaced the stock h-pipe with a Bassani x-pipe when I had my Corsa Indy exhaust installed....that was before Corsa offered an x-pipe, but I have no regrets....good sound and no burping on deceleration.

My thanks to all who responded to my original post on the Corsa Touring system.

Considering the response so far, it would appear the X-pipe is worth the expense to smooth out the idle and reduce popping on deceleration.

I'd appreciate more feedback on whether the Corsa Touring is any quieter than the stock C5 exhaust at interstate cruising speeds (65-80 mph).

I have Corsa Touring's on my '99 and they are definitly quieter than stock at cruising speeds

I have the SLP Loudmouths on my car, and they are definately NOT quiter than stock. :D :D :D

Thank you all for the advice and opinions. I plan to go with the Corsa Tourings and Corsa X-pipe. I have taken readings with a digital sound pressure level meter which indicates the stock setup produces 73 db SPL (A weighted) at a steady 65 mph averaged over 60 seconds on a stretch of level asphalt paved Interstate highway, all accessories off, in sixth gear. This measurment is averaged from six samples taken over two days with low wind conditions and temperatures about 15 degrees. (2003 Coupe shodd with Michelin Pilot A/S ZP rubber).

I'll report back the results after installing the Corsa system in a few weeks.
