Corvair Steering column in a Vette?

I believe the '65 and '66 Corvair Tele can be easily made to work in a Corvette, maybee someone who knows how to do the conversion will respond.

"Are you nuts?"

This car is in a MILLION Pieces in my back yard, and it is slowly going back together. Of course I am nuts........

I have been doing research on this and have heard of the swap from at least 3 other sources. Am I on to something here?? Corvairs had telescopic
columns and wooden wheels too.
HMMMM, Lets see:
1. horns are the same
2. t/s switches are the same
3.diameter is unique,... and the same.
anthing else?

The Corvair columns that I have looked at look very similiar if not exact to Corvette. The mounts are different, but the column tube is the same. The Tele-column can be converted. Check the 1965 or 1966 Corvette AIM. It willhave a break down of the Column either tele or regular. Good luck, keep us posted on the conversion. oWEN

If the length of the tube is the same or longer, and the length of the shaft it roughly the same with the same flexjoint spline - IMO it's a direct fit.

Yes, you can make a corvair column work in a vette. A 65-66 corvair column is very similat to a 64-66 corvette column. You can take the corvair column, remove the spot welded firewall plate from it, and replace the center shaft with a corvette shaft (available new) and it will look and function the same.
