Information Regarding Changes to GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant Tours
January 13, 2005
Effective February 1, 2005, GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant will make some changes to its plant tour process including expansion to the Cadillac XLR area and a $5.00 charge for tours.
The tour, which drew just under 40,000 visitors from around the world in 2004, will continue to take guests through a large part of the Chevrolet Corvette assembly process. The $5.00 fee is being implemented to help offset the cost of providing tours and to upgrade the tour experience. For example, this year for the first time, visitors will also be guided through a portion of the Cadillac XLR assembly area. At the end of the tour, visitors will receive a special product-related gift item.
In addition, a new online reservation system has been installed. It allows guests to schedule a tour months in advance and pay online. Reservations are highly recommended as group sizes will be limited. Guests without reservations may also pay at the assembly plant with cash or a credit card.
Tours of the Bowling Green Assembly plant are available Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. CT. Tours are closed on most major holidays and during GM’s annual two week July shutdown. Tours may be cancelled during some production builds or process changes. Special tour times are available for groups of 10 or more and can be made online or by calling 270-796-5063. The plant is wheelchair accessible and a limited number of wheelchairs are available for tours.
A recorded tour information line is also available at 270-745-8419.
The plant is located adjacent to I-65. Just take exit 28, turn right at the first stoplight and then go straight ahead, following the signs.
Some restrictions apply: Visitors must be seven years or older, must wear closed toe shoes, and cannot bring cameras, backpacks, purses, fanny packs or other packages or containers into the plant except by special request (for medical reasons, etc.).
Exempt from the $5.00 fee are school grades fourth through eighth, active military personnel and families of plant employees and retirees.
