I had that infamous clanking noise from halfshaft yoke being torqued to 160 ft/lbs rather than 200. Lived with this noise for 2 years. Then all of a sudden its gone! Could Corvette fairies replaced my rear bearing and the yoke while I was sleeping???:confused

Who you callin' a fairy? :L

Is this something unique to the ZR-1 drivetrain? :confused

No, C-4s w/ manual ZF-6s. Factory manual specified 160 ft/lbs when torqueing the nut on half shaft yoke. Later factory revised this to 200 for manual cars. Ofcourse my mechanic torqued it at 160 and this allows lateral movement of the yoke relative to wheel bearing during change of rotational direction resulting in clanking noise.

Ah, I know of what you speak now. There is a kit that someone sells to reinforce that area I think. It consists of a couple of plates.

Huh, more info on that would be appreciated.
By the way, hows your decked out 87? i followed your story when you were building it last year.

I set nut to 160 lb when I did work in that area. Never had a problem. That was approx 3 years ago.
