I'll be there...Maserati Trofeo on Friday, and the Corvette Corral on Sat. and Sun. VIR is a long, horsepower course, and I think Corvette Racing has had all the horsepower sucked out by the current formula. I was a Pratt and Miller last week, and saw the restricter - it was the size of a quarter at the engine intake.

Well, IMSA has been successful at defeating the best efforts of all the teams but the one they think should dominate. The race was boring, little or no passing, and the Vettes were very clearly very down on horsepower. Add to that IMSA changed the refueling spec for the Vette mid-event, and increased pit times. I really don't see any point of going to a race at this point. The results are pretty much a done deal at qualifying.

Who said NASCAR wouldn't screw up sports car racing?

...and the Corvette Corral was nothing to write home about. But VIR is still a wonderful place to spend time and watch a "race."

bitch, moan, complain....:(

Doug Fehan commented that Corvette racing did the best they could given that they weighed more than any other GTLM car and carried less fuel.

I always thought that "Balance Of Performance" (BoP) meant that IMSA would adjust the weight and horsepower to equalize the lap times on the cars. Looks to me like BoP actually stands for "Balance of Points" as IMSA has saddled the class leading Corvettes and BMWs with performance restrictions such that the other manufacturers have the opportunity to catch up in points - both driver and manufacturer.

Well, IMSA appears to have done that. Now that the points races are really close, let's hope that IMSA "balances" things again so that everyone has a chance at being competitive in the last two races.

One can hope.

IMSA has used up all 4 of it's opportunities to change the rules. There will probably not be any more changes for the last 2 races.

Corvette Racing needs a serious reconstruction in the team.

I agree, how so? We have the best team and drivers in the world! If the team or drivers were different would the results be any different? I don't think so. I put the blame on the AoP. Let's take the AoP off and then see them race.

When you have a class with two separate races running in it then it is obvious that AoP (A$$ hole performace) is way out of wack. Watching VIR the GTLM class had one race between Porsche and Ferrari and a 2nd race of Corvette and BMW. IMSA, you have a big problem.

Maybe we should try to adjust with the new rules instead of whine. We are 8th overall, we just can't keep up...
But i guess i should be more optimistic about the near future though instead of bashing the team...
We got huge talent in that team, that's for certain.

The Corvette Racing Team did the best they could with the cards they were dealt thanks to BoP.

They got a pair of deuces and the BMW's got a pair of treys.

It's just that the Porsche and Ferrari teams were dealt flushes and straights.

In this game, you can't fold either.

With the idea of setting GTLM rules to the FIA GT3 rules, everybody will be dealing with BoP and the whims of the sanctioning body do decide what is fair and what is not.

I like the idea of heads up racing with a race prepared but stock car - I just don't see that happening. It might spoil the show and racing these days is all about the show. THe sanctioning bodies can't wait a year for a manufacturer to tweak their production car to make it competitive and the manufacture wants to know that they can be competitive right out of the box whether their street car is a piece of fecal matter or not.

As far as I can see, the sanctioning bodies are doing their best to kill racing in the US and the world with their desire to put on a good show.

I and several fans emailed Scott Atherton and he responded although it was a canned letter. At least he knows that we are all pissed.

A petition is going around asking IMSA to readdress the AoP issue in the GTLM class. You can sign here:

Race fans spend plenty of money going to the Tudor Races all season. Tickets hotels food etc. Thousands of dollars. We expect to see racing! We do not approve and will no longer support a race series where the outcome is fixed. On a regular basis a team that is doing well is punished for no reason other than they are doing well. Over the last two seasons one team has been consistently punished with Balance of Power adjustments, at the same time teams that are all ready faster are given further assistance. This gentlemen is not racing. We the fans respectfully request that this biased processes is stopped. Yes the cars need to be competitive however you do not penalize the better teams. There are many ways to ensure that the cars are equal. What is currently being done is not the way for the series to continue.

I'm through, and won't be going to Atlanta. Good spectator racing is about competition, and the competition is the worst in many years. Hell, I won't waste my time watching on TV, let alone travel for the race.
