openroadracing.com and there are others. I did the PONY EXPRESS last summer. What a kick! :bu

http://www.silverstateclassic.com/ I think there are some in California and some in the midwest somewhere as well..... and if you're really serious, have a lot of time and MONEY, there's always http://www.onelapofamerica.com/

Check out the Sports Car Club of America (should be SCCA.com or SCCA.org) and look at the Club Racing and Pro Racing areas. They pretty much road race everything, including MGs and Triumphs still!

The wife and I try to do the Big Bend Open Road Race (www.bborr.com) every year in one of the Vettes. Open road 'racing' isn't door to door racing but solo against the clock. Unless you're running 'unlimited', you shoot for a specific time at the end of the run and try to average an exact mile per hour. The slowest class at BBORR is 85MPH and they go up in 5MPH increments. This year, we'll be trying the 120 class for the first time. The BBORR is a 2-way run which is really good for us since my wife and I share driving and navigating duties and we both get to drive during the same event. 60 miles one way with 60 turns and then turn around and drive back (after everyone has finished the first run of course).

Linky no worky Johny ;)

Tuna, sounds like a great time, let us know how ya do :w Those that haven't tried this would be VERY surprised at how important the navigation is and how competitive this kind of racing can be. Folks actually come in on the nubers and very close to them.

Lots of math and formula's as well as real cocentration to do it right, not to mention how much fun it really is to drive your vette at sustained high speeds --- legally. Who REALLY thinks in terms of 2 miles + a minute :confused :cool

It is a little work but well worth it.
We won the 110 MPH class last year against 14 other cars at an average of 110.009 or 0.3 seconds off after 1 hour and 4 minutes of driving using just stop watches and we were third in the 'hand-timer' class. Yes, it's competitive.
After crusing at 110 plus or minus for over an hour, it's hard to drive 70 on the interstate. One of the hazards of open road racing - boredom driving home!

road races

Thank you everyone for all the quick heads up ! Some ,hehe, most! are out of my leag! anything come to mind that goes off in or around the NY west point area ? thank you , Capt. Bane

I'll second that! I couldn't do it. 90+ most of the way (lotsa lonely desert). I think we cut about an hour and a half off the trip on the wway down ;LOL

Well........

How about 10? I use it for descent planning, mostly.

600 - That's hauling the mail!

everyone forgot about the most easiest to sign up and race in.....

AutoX or as some know it as Solo II

basically it is a short course in a big parking lot. speeds usually never get above 60 mph but you will stress your car to the limit with lateral G forces and the competition is stiff!

check it out......

Thanks for the link. I have wanted to do this since I bought the car, having done a fair amount since school days. I'd have to do it only for fun now, against the dudes with the semis and spare engines, etc.
