If you watched the show top gear the Ferrari 430 spider handled as good and was as fast as the 430 coupe -these cars have about the same horse as the Z06.Ferrari is coming out with the 458 Italia spider next year an it will have 570 horsepower. I hear that rigidity thing all the time- They were saying that with the 3oo horse convertibles but they managed to get them to 436 horses and in five years or less there will be even more horsepower in the convertibles. Chevrolet will build them and people will buy them-alittle more horse at a time-until the government shuts them down-like they did in the 70's.

The z06 was designed as a coupe because that is what the Z06 has always been to enthusiasts. Want a lift off driving experience..? Buy a coupe or a grand sport.

The steel chassis targa lift off coupe at 3300 lbs has a top speed of 190 mph...for 50 grand..

Thats not chump change but its a far cry from the Ferrari F430.

I was cruising up around bear mountain today with the roof off my 08 C6...and who followed me for much of the way? A beautiful silver f430 coupe..Awesome quarter of a million dollar machine...even if it was a coupe and not a convertible..

Funny thing...I think he admired the time I was having sun tanning and cruising in the vette as much as I admired his beautiful silver ferrari..

As I was pulling off....he pulled up...I threw him a thumbs up and wouldn't you know...he was just as enthusiastic as he did the same..

The aluminum frame of the z06 was designed to be built in the same procedure or jigs as the steel framed vette and so it was not as stiff as it might have been...(I remember something like that being discussed at the time the Z06 released) and thats why the roof is an integral part of the chassis stiffness.

Even still I believe the z06 is lighter than the R8, 911 turbo, and quite a few others..

I'm not sure but I think my lowly 2008 c6 z51 1lt M6 with NPP outperforms quite a few open sports cars and might even be lighter..

I almost traded my ride for a z06 but then thought about it...and I can't give up the removable roof of my present corvette..

Last vette I could care less...but at this point in my life.....I'm digging driving with the roof off...
