corvette vs. ford GT40

On directv last night Channel 285 DTMS put on a program made in 2004 claiming the Ford GT40 is the most successful American racecar. I think their boasting stems most from the First, Second and third place finish in the 1966 24 hour Lemans. By now hasn't the Corvette surpassed this nasty little ford? Will the vette outrun the GT 40? who has the answers?

The Ford GT-40 (MK-IV) was timed @ 213.003mph on the Mulsanne straight, June 10,1967. 6982cc V-8 making over 500hp @ 6200rpm.

The earlier 4 speed model speeds in gears:
1st= 89mph
2nd= 140mph
3rd= 170mph
4th= 205mph
