Hey,

My friend and I are trying to settle a bet and I'm hoping you can help us out. One of us maintains that in 2001 Chevrolet came out with the Z06 rated at 385 horsepower and in 2002 followed up with the 405 horse version, still calling it the Z06. The other claims that prior to the 405 horse Z06, Chevrolet came out with a C5 based car with 385 horsepower in 2001 or 2000 and called it the Z05. Who is right?

Z06 has always been Z06 and has never changed to Z05... :cool

Waft,
As far as I can see, in Corvette literature, there has not been a Z05 designation.* The original Z06 code was a performance package on the 1963 Sting Ray. Resurrected in 2001, you are correct in that it had 385 horse. The 2002 to 2004 Z06's are rated at 405 but all carried the Z06 moniker.
6 Shooter's links show this pretty graphically. :)
* Note: I did find two Z05 references but they were for a two-tone paint and striping option in '76 through '83 and a comfort and convenience package for '85 through '88.

Hi Waft -

The first is correct - 2001 Z06 = 385 , 2002+ = 405 , never a Z05.

best regards -

I have a Z05. Its a C5 coupe that has all the cast aside parts from the Z06. Z06 Ti exhaust, Z06 airbox inlet, Z06 anti-sway bars, Z06 wheels and F1 supercar tires and 04 Z06 shocks. Waiting for a good deal on Z06 springs, and my Z05 will be complete.

Now THAT sounds cool! Some photos would be great. :D

I'll try to take some pictures this weekend. And if anyone has 55 extra HP for sale off there Z06 I'll take that too.

I think a fart can and a few stickers would do it. At least it works for the ricers. :D

Add a gigantic spoiler and put a lot of heavy sub-woofers in the back. that should be good for about 4,000hp. :D

Waft, whoever said the '01 Z06 had 385 hp and '02 and up has 405 hp is the WINNER. I had an '01, '02 and now an '04. As far as the Z05, I believe it was an after market option for the 2000 frc. Hope this settles it for you.
