My 02 coupe roof rattles like crazy when stored in the back. The pins look fine and I don't have any problems when the top is on. I was thinking of putting some rubber pads into the pin mounts on the trunk floor. Anyone else with this problem and a suggested fix? Thanks to all.

I'm not sure what you mean by the retaining latches? Do you mean the pins that go into the rear of the roof? If so, no there's no rubber tips. Should there be?

In the rear of the trunk there are two latches that secure the roof panel when it is stored and they should have rubber tips on the end of them.

Yes those have the rubber on them. The roof rattles on the other end down at the floor. It's very loose there. I think if I pull hard enough on it the roof would come loose.

You have to make sure the post that attach to the roof are sitting square on the little cups provided on the floor, then as the roof panel lays against the back end attach the latches and slightly lift up on the panel to secure it to the latches.

IF YOU STILL HAVE TROUBLE, CHECK YOUR MANUAL. IT SHOWS THE CORRECT POSITION. IT SHOULD NOT MAKE ANY NOISE. I HAVE A 2000 MAGNETIC RED COUPE AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE ROOF TINT COMING OFF. ARE YOU HAVING ANY PROBLEM WITH THAT? ALSO I HAVE THE POLISHED ALUMINUM WHEELS. I HAVE RAISED WHITE MARKS ON EVERYONE. IT LOOKS LIKE CALCIUM DEPOSITS. ANY PROBLEM FOR YOU?

I'll check to see that it's sitting square. I really don't think that's the problem though. I don't have any problem with the tint coming off or the polished rims. I did read somewhere else on this forum that some people are having trouble with the tint.
By the way don't use all caps or you'll get Rob upset.

Thank you for the tip. It's easier with the caps but I won't use them. I just remembered the cups on the floor move for adjustment. Have you tried that? Thank you for the info on the tint.

Hey Lil Red,
Turns out you were right. Just had to lift up on the rear of the panel and move it around a bit so the retaining pins seated better into the roof. Sometimes the obvious is just too easy. Thanks to all and have a safe Labor Day weekend.

Joe Vett no problem glad it was just that simple and nothing bigger. Now get out there and let the summer breeze make you feel fine!:Steer :_rock

Hey Joe,
Sorry about the Jimi Hendrix reference.
I bet you've had better weather then me here in central NY. No matter, I drive about 40 mi to get to work and enjoy every Vette mile. Heck, we've even had a few days I could pop the top. As to relating to the thread, I've had no problem with storing my top in the back (with other work related "junk"). Don't forget to wave if you're upstate on I-90, I-87, or I-81. Yes, I know there are other interstates down there.

The chocks on the cargo floor are hard plastic and the roof doesn't fit tight when in its' stowed position. I inserted small black foam inserts that I made into the bottom of both chocks that allow the roof to move, but prevents it from clattering around. Problem solved.
