I have always been bugged by the water that accumulates at the bottom of the coupe hatch after washing. I would always work out as much water as I could by running my finger down along the rubber, then use a towel to wring out the rest.

Better solution: since I service PCs, I have a lot of those cans of compressed air. Now one is a permanent part of my carwash kit, and it blows the water out real quick!

Ive never tried it but some people on here have recomended using a weed blower on the car after washing, they say it works well.As far as the rear window corners have you thought about the drain hole with a tube mod?

Why didn't I think of that? Great idea!!! I was always reluctant to use the leaf blower, but cans of compressed air sounds like an excellent solution. :beer

Make sure you use an electric leaf blower. The gas ones can blow out a gas/oil mixture sometimes....now that would wreck your clean car!!!

I have seen them advertised, but it just doesn't seem like the type of mod I am comfortable with - just all thumbs, I guess!

yea, real easy to ding your finish with the leaf blower too.. so be careful.

Can of air sounds like a better way to finish up after letting the shami soak up most of it.

I was told not to do the drain tube mod due to the body panel design. (creates a weak point)

good luck and thanks for the tip

done the tube drains, but made my own useing 1/4 in brass tubeing
ya drill thru the body, then theres a air space
then ya hit a galvanized reinforceing plate
then finally thru another section of smf then you'll see the drill bit come thru
but ya also have to drop the inner wheel well to connect the rubber drain hose
kinda neat cause you can hear the water being sucked thru the tube

I don't use a leaf blower - gas or electric - or even a chamois. After years of doing this (my gray hair speaks for itself!), my technique is to use one of those "California" squeegee things to wipe off most of the water, and then light wiping with white towels after that. Seems to work for me.

I open the front hood and rear hatch after squeegee but before wiping, let the water drain down, then blow out the hatch corner and side mirrors. Then close her up and final wipe.

Old fashion way

After I wash and dry the car I then take it for a drive. The speeds are usually 40 to 50 around where I live. After a mile or so I go home and wipe off the water that has blown out onto the body.

I especially do this if I plan to wax the car after washing it. It gets the car ready for waxing without picking up water on the cloths. And it is cheaper then cans of compressed air. Assuming gas is $3.00 a Gallon and you get 16 MPG then it cost abut 19 cents a mile for fuel. But most important you get to take a drive in your vette. :lou

Me too altho I found that three three miles at 80 seems to do the trick, I call it the 380 method of drying the car;)

I live in small town.. 400 people 20 dogs and to many cats to count. It is about 2 blocks to the country and a 100 mph run with a smile for a mile. come back and car is nearly dry, nothing left in any of the body joints.then the wiped down. This stretch of road has no side roads good visibility and nearly no traffic, the hard surface ends at the end of two mile.

I installed those tubes at the corner of the hatch, when I replaced my weatherstrippng.
It works well.

Alot of talk here about washing techniques but no mention of the "Mr. Clean Auto Dry" kit...once you wash you spray your car off with this thing in the "spot free" rinse position...you will not believe the results!!!

Absolutely spot free...no wiping and no weed blowers!

AMAZING tool for a few $$'s .....works great!!

My "2 cents" worth..............................

STINGER !!

Tell us more, Stinger!!. I never considered it because it looks like one of those water blaster/brush type things - I never let anything so harsh near my Vette. Is this so?

Bob

Bob,

This Mr.Clean "water" gun/nozzle is only a spray unit. It has a compartment for soap that sprays with water, turn a knob and it is a rinse only spray, once you are finished washing, turn the knob again and it runs the water through a filter that is replaceable and rinses you car with "filtered" water...removes all particles that dry and leave water spots..."its a beautiful thing"!!

You can buy these at WalMart, Target, ect for about $20 or less and the filters are available there for replacement...about $6.00 ea. They last for about 3-5 washes depending on how much rinsing you do...

I am telling you it works GREAT!! Try it out and you will not be sorry....no need to towel dry...painless!

Jesus, I sound like a salesman here.......

Wash? Yikes...who washes their car, what's that? How about no water and just quick detailer, polish and wax?

you say this and you own a black vette? (I don't believe you) hahahaha ;)

Yes, the MR Clean wash system works(works better if you don't have extremely soft or hard water). Its all that will work on my C5 and not leave water spots.

Our local car wash has a spot free rinse. It uses reverse osmosis water. Only spots I get is the dust that lands on the car before it is dry, so it does get wiped down.

Nope...no water ever. High speed machine cleaning, polish, wax and quick detailer. The car looks like glass. Oh, I do use water on the wheels and tires after they are off the car.
