I'm going to be putting a new stereo in my '79 and I would like some feedback on how the custom autosound stereos sound. I was thinking about the USA-6 and 6 disc changer. My wife and I want to keep a semi-stock look so we don't want all the LED's and lights that most stereos have. Is this a decent system? What about amp/speaker suggestions? Any info good or bad would be appreciated.

This is what I'm thinking I'm going to do. I also want a semi-stock looking system for the Vette without all those lights, etc. As for quality, though, I don't know yet. But this is what I'm going to go with I think. Then just put replacement 6x9s in the back for better quality.

That is what I have in my 73. The stock speakers are not enough to produce quality sound. I upgrade the 4x6 and installed dual rear speakers. Sound is ok, I can really hear the music over the vehicle/exhaust noise. Don't listen to alot of music anyway.
I do like the looks - blends in nicely. The only bad feature is the LCD display is not readable from the driver's normal position, you have to lean forward to read the display.

I bought the trunk mounted RF remote radio and 6-disc changer for the 61 vette been very happy with this combination and it sounds pretty good not the big boom sound but good quality sound Steve:w

Yes, this is what I'm looking for. Put in a new head unit from autosound and just put in a couple of replacement speakers. This is what I have in mind.

I was planning on new speakers as well as the stereo. I was just a little nervous about not being able to see (and hear) an installed unit before I ordered one. No one around here keeps them in stock. Sounds like I have nothing to worry about though. Thanks for the info.

Just my $0.02 - I used CAS parts in my 1971 el Camino SS resto. Had no problems with them last year. They were nice folks to work with. Have not done anything with them since but they were super nice to me.

For you C3 owners

Just install what you want and use another center console plate and cut it like I did. Then you can always go back to OEM any time. Mine sounds great, also updated the rear speakers with a unit I made that also comes right out..

I like the way that looks, SLICKMAN. I'm call in to order the CAS catalog and see what I can find as far as the head unit goes. Then I'll just get some 6x9 replacement speakers. That's my plan of action. :)
