Hey everyone,

I was surfing the web and stumbled across a website for a company that makes rollbars for Miatas. I emailed the owner asking if he had heard of, or could fabricate some for the C3. Turns out, he's a Vette guy too. Owns a 64 Vert, and had a 76 not too long ago.

He asked me where we could attach the bars on the Vette, and I thought I'd ask everyone here for ideas. He could produce them for quite a few of us if we get this project rolling (no pun intended).

On the Miatas, there is a set of shoulder belt towers at "seated neck" height that are used for mounting.

I've seen Chris's setup on the 69, and although that is a lot more solid, since I don't have 700 hp under the hood like he does :D my chances of rolling the car are a lot less so I'm looking more for just the aesthetic value of the bars.

Jegs sells a rollbar for the C3. They attach to the frame. A rollbar can be weld on or bolt on (your choice). The weld on ones also weld to the metal cage under the valance panel. The legs of the bar weld or bolt onto the frame (bolt on needs welding on frame too for the supports) and you need to drill holes in the body for that.

69myway has a nice page somewhere that shows how a rollbar is mounted, a picture says more than words.

I have designed roll bars for my 454 72 vert. I do alot of welding with my business but was having trouble finding someone who could fabricate the upper roll bar sections that will mount behind my seats. If it wouldn't be too much trouble could you post this guys web address. I would like to contact him. I want to use 1 5/8" moly if possible. Thanks, Vette 76

I had my bars built by Jimmy Britts of Southern Speed in Orange Park, FL. He builds real race cars and has all the tools and materials to make first class bars.

Thanks for the pics

Those pics are very helpful. Thanks. I clicked on the website for Mr. Britts you left on a previous post but it is no longer available. Also, Are your fender flares ACI 3" on rear? What is the brand and dimension on the front. I have several C-3 clips front and back in my parts inventory. Can a flare be customized from using other fender parts or is it better to just bite the bullet and buy them premanufactured? ACI lists for$164 each x 4 fenders. but they are not in the catalog and I don't know what they look like. I will probably be using 18 x 12 wheels with Mich 345 45 18's but was concerned about wheel rub against fiberglass spring mounts. I have a 72 454 .60 over with chrome hooker headers and sidepipes that will be going in this vette. I have a friend that owns a race car painting business that will be painting it black with very subtle pearl blue inlayed ghost flames. He had one of his cars win best paint in Houston a few years ago and really did an unbelievable job on a 76 I just restored-23 coats including primer, base and clear coats. It has been really great to find other guys doing similar things to their vettes. Again, thanks Vette 76

I noticed his web site stopped working. I will have to ask when I see him.
I am running the exact set up you have described. You can get a more narrow spring from VB&P, but with 18" or larger rims you don't need it as the spring goes up in the edge of the open rim. Don't know about the different flares. My ACI flares were each seperate and required hand fitting. They look like what you see in my photos. In the picture below you can see the rear flare after I fitted it to the car and used zip screws to hold it in place. From here you hand form it. I used the left over inner lip from my stock fenders to add a lip to the flares for a OEM look.

His website address is:

We're still trying to come up with a place to mount the bars to without having to weld anything. Any ideas?

YEP! Mine are not welded in. What you see in those photos are pure bolt in assemblies.

Jimmy can duplicate them for you if you like.

904-272-2851 or 904-272-1834

He is a heck of a nice guy and produces top notch work.

Hmmm, your's are gorgeous! How much do you think he'd charge?

I'm sure you have a posting/website for the writeup on your bars?
