Hey gang--
The seat on my '78 are worn out and need to go. Rather than replacing them with the stock seat, I was thinking about doing a racing-style seat. I am running into problems of fitment. Overall, it seems that the seats I have found are several inches wider than the stock seats. Ultimately, I want a seat that looks good, is comfortable, and adds a bit of individuality to the car. I know some of the racing seats are more narrow, but I would like to keep the tilt capabilities so that I have easy access to the rear compartment. Here is my ideal seat:

That is the look I am going for. Any suggestions? If I could somehow manage to squeeze these seats into my car, I would do it in a heartbeat. Otherwise, it looks like the search continues!

I looked at the same seats for my '78. I decided not to go with aftermarket seats.

I ended up using 79 frames with new mounted, leather seat covers because the cost ended up about the same for two of the pricey Corbeaus. The same cost for LEATHER seats..... EASY DECISION!

I also looked at how the seat fits into the car. The fact that the 79 seats fold at about the 3/4 mark makes it easier to access the rear cargo compartment. The fact that the seats will lay flat really helps get things in and out easier.

I don't think you can do that as easy with the aftermarket seat. Heck, you can't even do that with the original 68-78 seats!

But if you go with those seat... go for black! They really look nice. I was able to see them in another car before I decided on going with another OEM seat.

Well, the reason I was going with red was because my factory interior is red. I don't imagine it will match totally, but it will probably be close enough. The point is moot, however, since I found out today that these seats will not fit in the car. The rep told me that the A4 would fit, but they only show it in black on the website. The rep informed me that they are now making them in red as well. Here is the link to the black:

Well, what do you all think? I will have to contact a dealer to see what kind of price I can get on them. I have also been thinking about leather, but who knows?

C4 seats work great with minor mods to the C3 tracks to drop them in. There are deals a plenty out there if you look hard enough.

Check with www.tropiczoneracing.com which is also TZracer here on the site. He is running the Corbeau A4 seats. Although the car is not done yet, they look like they are going to be really sweet. He went with black as his interior is black.

Click on the race car, then on the left for the 71 Street Vette link for more pics and details.

Chris--
When I first started looking around for seats, I began by looking at the manual C4 seats. I found out that Ecklers will recover the C4 cushions in any C3 color for a nominal fee, so I began searching for some C4 seats. Then I got deeper into what I was actually planning for the car, and thought the Corbeau offerings might be better. I want to add a roll bar and a pair of harnesses for safety, and with the Corbeaus, it will look more integrated. I sent a request last night about info on custom leather for the A4 advertised as being available in "any color". At almost $750 a seat once all is said and done, they better be able to do them in any color! I checked out TZracer's site, but couldn't find any pics of the seats yet. The car looks awesome, however. What a transformation! Anyway, I will check into the C4 seats again. Any suggestions for places I should begin my search? :beer

I have Sparco Milano seats in my 79 and I just love them.

Here's link to Sparco's site:

And here's link to see pics about my seats:

Hey Sparco

Would love to see your seat pics but yer link isn't working for me. Know if anyone else had probs? Curious if its your link or my program. Thanks.

Yo Groovy

Is that your ride or someone elses? I like the side pipes, but they don't look like stock or hooker's which I thought were basically the only options for side pipes and headers. By the way I like both the Sparco and Corbeau Seats. how do they compare in price?

B

Yeah it's my car alright, I've had it for 12 years now. The sidepipes I have are home made with spiral baffle inserts. The header I have are Stahl's. I believe Sparco's are bit more expensive than Carboeus.:beer
