When I put my engine in, I put in some custom glasspack mufflers in my Hooker side tubes. Basically, I bought a 2.5" perferated tube and a bunch of muffler fiberglass from a small time muffler company. Total was about $40 for the stainless steel tubes and enough fiberglass for 4 mufflers (I was thinking ahead here). I then welded the ends from the original Hooker glasspacks to the new tubes.

Well, I pulled them and here is what I found:

The passenger side fiberglass was almost completely burnt. I figured this as the pass side was quite a bit louder than the driver's side.

Here's a shot of the pass side only:

Hmmmmm......

Is that not what the fiberglass is supposed to eventually look like anyways though? I was under the impression that you have to replace the fiberglass ones often. But then again i dont have sidepipes. But I will in about 6days!!! It does look really bad though and not something that you want on your performance old school or to be what is creating your exhaust note. Have you looked into those spiral baffles? I dont remember what Co. makes them but theyre unfortunatley like $3bills. Theyre basically like a spiral blade thats imobile.

What are you planning on doing next?

I expected the fiberglass to last a bit over 30k miles, probably about 50k-60k.
I still have another 2 mufflers worth of fiberglass. I'm going to just re-wrap them and run for another 30k miles or so.

IMHO the STS baffles are overpriced. I may go with the same muffler type, though. Several companies sell just the auger inserts in 3" and 3 1/2" sizes. If I go this route, I'll get the 3 1/2" inserts and some length of 3 1/2" pipe and have the auger inserts welded to the pipe. I figure I'll have 2' in each side tube. Then, I'll cut and re-weld the end disks of my current mufflers on the 3 1/2" pipe. This should cost me about $60 and I won't have to drill any holes in my side tubes. To me, the fabrication is part of the fun.

No fair, you have 10 more CI and a zz4 cam. I bet that sounds unbeliveable at WOT! I cant wait to get mine on!
