I'm finally gonna get myself a C4 this summer. If I can I'd like to get a ZR-1, and just wanted to know what veteran z owners think of using a ZR-1 as a daily driver (and I mean every single day). Reliabilty, over life and longevity or the car, etc.

I can't speak from experience in owning a ZR-1 as a daily driver, but I have owned a C5 as a daily driver. :D

I'm sure that almost any C4 would be a great daily driver... but I'd think the parts scarcity and cost for parts specific to the LT5s could make daily driver service a challenge. If you have a mechanical failure it might be hard to find someone who can work on it and do it well. Not a deal breaker- just a consideration.

Anyway- life's too short not get your bucket list checked off. Might as well enjoy one as a DD if you get the chance. :thumb

The LT5 engine, then left in stock or mildly modified trim, has proven to be quite durable, so as long as the ZR1 you buy has an engine in good condition, the reliabllity/durability problems you might encounter would be the same as any other 90-up C4.

In other words, if the engine is ok to begin with, the problems you may have are not going to be ZR-1 specific.

The only exception to that is the ZR-1 specific body parts. If you crash the car, body parts from the doors back are difficult to obtain.

Depends on your driving...commuting or ?

I use my C5 six speed as a daily driver....MOST of the time its a joy...but if I had to do the 8am/5pm stop and go into the city.....it would be a bitch. My C4 ZR 1 would be the same....you really don't want to have to stir gears a couple of hours a day, with some ah six inches behind you. The engine itself, if in good shape, will likely outlast you.
