I have an 86 coupe with Z51 option which rear would be in this car.

The codes indicate that it has the 3.07 rearend, without getting under the car would anyone out there know.

Thanks Ken, how can I tell though?

It is an auto.

An '86 Z51 with an automatic transmission?? They were available with automatics by then? If I knew that I forgot it. :L

If it's an automatic, there's a good chance it's a Dana 36. Do you have a build sheet?

Yeah Yeah right, ha ha auto, I get it all the time.

But I hate driving to work in traffic with a standard. (Shift,Shift,Shift, hunt, search, hunt).

what should I look for underneath to tell what it is.

Thanks
Mart

No, I wasn't making fun of you driving an automatic, I was talking about the fact that the initial run of Z-51 equipped Corvettes had manual transmissions only. This was done to discourage people from ordering the Z-51 package, which was considerably harsher in the early years, for normal street driving; much the same as with the L-88 in the late sixties (if we can put ourselves in with such esteemed company ;)).

I know that by 1987 they had the auto available with the Z-51/Z-52 packages, but I thought that in 1986 the autos were still only available with the Z-52 package, and I don't know if that included the Dana 44 or not. ;shrug

Externally, the 36 case is noticeably different (smaller) around the pinion area of the carrier.

Hmmm, I was not aware that the Z52 option was available on the 86.

My car is actually early production as well (Iron heads) but yeah it drives harsh, but sticks like glue, especially since it has 88 wheels sportin 275 40s on all 4 corners.

Sure is fun on on ramps, with my buddy trying to keep up in his Rustang.

86 Z51 triggered 3.07 rear. Its a D36 if its an automatic.

Z52 is not available in 86.
