I am fitting the Richmond six to Killer right now. Obviously I am very excited and anxious to experience the new gears.

Some of you may know I have a hydraulic release bearing conversion for my clutch.

I installed a new oring kit to it while I had it out.

Well, I must have cut one because while bleeding it out tonight, I found out it has a huge leak.

Time is short! I want the car ready for the Octobervette celebration in Kissimmee on 10/11.

So, I dug out the standard manual linkage. I have to pull the trans back out to get going on this..which means disconnecting all the shifter linkage....!

Well, I am ticked off and just need to vent. Please remind me this is JUST a hobby!

If it makes you feel any better Chris, I haven't even touched mine in a week or so. I gave up.

If you have to throw something, throw AWAY from the Vette!

Man I wish I could help.

It is a hobby, but it is also a passion that becomes a part of all of us.

Is there any way you can replace the O Ring?

Noticed Chris hasn't replied... he's either killed himself or he is disconnecting the shifter linkage. :bang

:L Nope, I just went to bed!

I can get a new o ring kit, but don't know if I will have it in time to get the car running around this weekend for testing and tuning in preperation for the road trip on the 11th. The manual clutch is a sure thing...sort of. I may also need a longer ball stud because of the custom flywheel.

Now that the X member is removable, it is not too bad to drop the trans. That is not the issue. It is the building from scratch the linkage for a manual, or waiting on a oring kit to show up...then possibly tear it the second time I put it in!

I don't have time to wait on a $4 Oring kit, so I pulled the entire hydraulic system and installed the mechanical yesterday.

I am thinking about offering the hydraulic for sale. It is a fine system. It has not been the best choice for me with all the in and out I have had with the trans.

Most new cars now use the same style all in one hydraulic release bearing.

I have $400 in the whole set up, and am thinking about offering it for $200.

The cool thing is, if anybody is considering swapping to a manual trans, all they would need is a pedal..this would handle the rest.

Oh well...I might put it back in later, you never know with me.

Chris--
Sorry to hear of your frustrations! I know there have been several times in my own project that I have thought of just dumping the whole thing and getting C5 or a ZR1, lol. But hey, if you decide to sell the hydraulic system, I might be interested in it. I am going to need a heavier duty trans than the 4L60E, and surprisingly, the wife would prefer a manual!Either way, good luck and keep your head up.

Hey Chris...

Was told in email, that I'd find you here....so how's it going???

I been fiddling around still, with the vette....just the usual....more mods...and I pulled out my old headlight covers, the ones from the accident, hitting that deer back in '98....well the hinges are broken, but I am like that other fellow there, looking at a system of changing the mounting positions for the hinges anyway, to pivot them differantly, and lighten up on the installation at the same time, save weight...and also put in just ONE motor to activate both lids at the same time....so there is quite a bit of engineering work going on with this....I will need help....

I can get another buddy to do the fab work...but I"m looking at those lo profile ~2x5 inch bulbs also...moved much further forward so the lids only raise maybe 3inches at most....

Gene,

Hey! Glad to see you here.

You know, I just slapped that 71 vert back together. The headlight buckets were busted up in it. Britts had his dad aluminum weld them back togther...good as new.

There is no reason why your plan won't work. I am postive it can be done, and look wicked!

Britts' dad does some awesome aluminum welding. You can draw up your plans, take the buckets to him, and give him a week or two to get them fixed, then have the small light buckets welded in place.

As far as running one motor to lift them......that is going to be tough. Even with small composite lights, they are just heavy enough, that the rods and linkage to pull that off would be pretty extreme. We can slap a set of my Killer lights in there, limit the up motion....and have you ready to roll. The 80s porsche 928 (I think) used a single motor. I had the pleasure of working on one. The rod mechanism was fairly complex. The early GEO storms used one motor, but only had to pop a little eye lid.

Are you going to OctoberVette? I am pushing hard to get Killer ready. I will be home most of the weekend hammering it out with an eye towards the 11th.

Let me know.

Chris

Yeh, depending on how things go today....I just maybe able to get down there tmrw or sunday....
I got your number around here somewhere, so I"ll call first....
