1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
Any tips tricks or suggestions,

It all started with the steering colum rebuild ,I pulled out the dash cluster and notice a couple of splices in the excisting harness, and I also could never find the hot feed to the cigerette lighter.

So I purchased a new harness from lectric limited and plan on doing it this weekend

wish me luck

I've done a few. Most recently the '65 in December. First thing I learned is to keep the wires pliable by keeping them in the house. Probably put them in the sun for a half an hour at this time of year.

For installation, I use 6" 1/4x20 long bolts which are threaded about 25% to hold the cluster. Threaded rod is too difficult to slide the cluster on.

I aso remove the glove box to provide the best access to pulling the harness through and connecting the clock and blower motor. My latest addition is adding a few extra ground wires while I have the dash all apart. Superstitous behavior but then again, I will NEVER have another dash harness fire. Never.

I completely remove the sterring column and leave just the central steel rod for clearance. Just takes time, not rocket science.

Good luck.

Boy

What a royal pain in the A_ _ that was.The instrument cluster lamps just kept popping out. The only wire I have left over is a brown wire that has a single connection on it.It was next to the ignition switch area.

I have to check the wiring diagram to what it goes to.

So steering column is done.
dash harness is done
clutch and break pedal rebuild
new rag joint

I finally have an operational cigarette lighter,

Larry, if it's a 16-ga. brown wire with a single black plastic connector on it, it plugs onto the radio capacitor that's attached to the back of the cluster adjacent to the ignition switch. If you don't have the capacitor, just tape the wire out of the way - it's "hot" any time the key is in the "on" or "accessory" position.
