What a gorgeous day here in the Carolinas! I did some needed vacuuming and leather work on the inside, and then hit the road! For the first time this year, I took off the coupe roof and got to try the hatch vent thing I got for Christmas.

It worked great - really reduced the interior wind buffeting. But, as always, a question:

On rough roads, I could here a lot of movement of the hatch as it is not held down as solidly as when fully closed. Is that a problem? Wear on hatch hinges? Wear on solenoid and latch?

Of course, it will soon be too hot here to actually use it - I figger I have a 2 month window, at best! It's strictly A/C time here in the summer months.

Thanks, Bob

Which hatch vent do you have? Mine doesn't rattle at all. BTW, I ise the hatch vent in combo with slight window crack to keep the interior cooler in really hot weather :w

Could be. Mine has two bolts that you tighten and loosten with the targa top ratchet, very solid and secure.

I used mine for the first time last Sunday and am very happy with it. No squeaks or rattles.
It is not twist on but has threaded thumbscrew attachment. It is the EZ Vent from The Gadget Man for $23 including shipping. I learned of it on this forum so I know several others have the same thing.

That's the one I use. Had it in today actually. The only complaint is from drivers alongside me who can hear my Perry Como cd's.....;LOL

Really....I was just kiddin'. I haven't heard that name in so long. I think Tony Bennet made a commercial not too long ago...Still like fast cars and Rock & Roll...guess I'll never grow up. :)

This is a fun thread. I found the twist on hatch vent in my car when I bought it. It works great (though I did have to fool with the device that is supposed to shut off the light switch when it caused the light to stay on), with no rattles, and I use it to prop up the hatch so I can slip my surfboard in the car with the back part sticking out about a foot. RE: Bennet/Como: I like Tony Bennet's version of "The Shadow of Your Smile"--Perry Como died recently, I think. Still, some of my favorite music is that mid 60s Bossa Nova music (Brazil 66, Stan Getz etc.) I call it "San Diego Music", as that's where I first heard it when my Dad was stationed there in the Navy. God, I need to get back to San Diego. Anyone know of job there for a lawyer?

Mine is the type for use with the roof ratchet, abd is a little noisy on rough roads.

Lawrence Welk eh. Ahh 1...2...3...Bubbles Please.;LOL

I have a C5 and have seen this item in a few catalogs. One question for you all, Doesn't having this device in use make the car look weird? With the size of the "lip" around the rear window it seems to me that the comfort benefits do not outweigh the aesthetic penalty.
I would be interested in cutting down the turbulence and road noise if it didn't make the Vette look goofy.

Anyone have a photo of the rear hatch opened with the EZ hooks in place?

Just ordered mine yesterday based on this thread. Gadget Man was happy to hear of the rave reviews on CAC for his EZ Vent.

That looks very similar to mine. After all, these catalog places don't actually manufacture them, and they probably get from the same vendors.

Mine seems to work OK, but if I am driving on a bumpy road, it seems to shake a bit. Guys with the thumbscrew or screw-on version seems to be saying that theirs are more stable, but I haven't heard enough positive words either way to spend another $30 or so to switch.

I used one (actually tried three different ones), hatch didn't rattle much even on rough roads with any of them. Loved then all, greatly reduced 'tubulance' noise with the windows open and/or the top off -- didn't really notice that one worked any better then the other. (I only bought one, the other 2 were given to me as gifts for those wondering why I had 3 different types). However, after a couple of long trips using them, my release started acting up and it wasn't too long afterwards the soleniod went completely bad. Have since replaced the solenoid, haven't used any of the hatch vent devices and haven't had any problems yet.

Can I state for a fact that 1 + 1 = 2 in this case -- no; and I'm not here to slam their use, just sharing my experiance. As for me, at $80 plus for a new solenoid, I'm not taking any chances and have thrown all three devices in my 'maybe someday I'll try them again' box in my storage room.
