I am working on a friends 69 convertible and trying to put the console back in working order. What I found strange was the interior color. The car is Daytona Yellow and the interior is green. This guy is the original owner so I have no doubt this is the way it came from the factory. The CAC tech center says that the only interior available with the Yellow was black. Anybody seen any strange ones like this?

Whats the trim plate say for interior code.
Black - 402
Red - 408
Blue - 412
Gunmetal - 415
Saddle - 421
Green - 428

Here's a thread...

Here's a link to an earlier thread about unusual colors. Note the last thread about a Warbonnet yellow with green interior.

My car is also special ordered - code 979 Targa Blue cars normally came with a Blue or Black interior. Mine is a code 407 Red Vinyl interior. The Build Sheet (Tank Sticker) has a code 2VZP2AA "Trim and Color Over-Ride", followed by code 2V407AD "Red Vinyl Interior". It looks great-especially with the red accent pinstriping along the hood, side, and roof sail panels. :cool

I sure (as you and your friend) would like to know how many of that combination were built, but you can only determine how many Targa Blues or how many Red Vinyls-not both. I'm sure your situation is similar.

If your friend is the original owner you may want to ask him what he was thinking when he put in the factory order. 1969 was a year when there were some powerful drugs available. Your friend must have had access to quite a few.

There is no way someone ordered that for stock at the dealership. If they did they only lasted as long as it took for the owner to see that car.

That's a beautiful color combination you have. Someone had good taste!:)

He didn't order it. It was on the showroom floor at a dealership in SOCAL. Apparently the dealer's son was the one that ordered it and then got in trouble with pop and didn't get to take delivery.

Like red70 said "powerful drugs in that time period". The location confirms it!:D

Yup, the end of the psychedelic drug era (LSD - Purple Microdot, etc).
I loved that time period even though I was still a kid (13)! :)

Thank you very much. I'm quite fond of it, too. Had a friend at work help me resize these photos, so you can see for yourself. They're not the best resolution, but my other photos were around 100kb each, and the limit is 86kb. Ah, well.

I certainly prefer blue with red over yellow with green! :)

Awesome! That is a VERY unique car. -John

I posted but it didn't "pop". Anyway I bought a very used 69 that the original color was yellow. When I riped out the ugly green carpet I did not check the original color. I've E-Mailed the present owner to check the codes. There might have been such a critter--Steve

I've seen 2 Targa Blue with Saddle interior cars too. Chuck

I'll check it out either today or tomorrow. It's still sitting on my lift waiting for me to get some time. I'm in the middle of moving to a new house (1/3rd acre) and building a new shop. I want to build this one with a ceiling high enough to have the lift inside. It gets a little warm here in Vegas about 4 months of the year. Thanks for all the great responses.

I would love to know which dealership it came from, I grew up with some of owners of local dealerships kids! I would love to drop that color combo story on the responsible party!

I've seen a mid-year Warbonnet yellow big block with green interior and a green stripe, very cool in a weird sort of way. But Daytona Yellow and green on a C3? He won't be running into that combo at a show!
